Where is the best SUPER UPSCALE shopping center in America?

On a recent trip to Virginia, I stopped at a shopping center called Tysons Gallera in Mclean, VA. I really enjoyed looking at all the classy rich people and super expensive clothes. While I did not buy anything, I really enjoyed being around all these fancy things.

When I travel cross country I enjoy looking at other SUPER UPSCALE malls. Where are the best upscale malls in America?

I'll start your list with the Bal Harbour Shops in Bal Harbor, Fla. (Miami/Ft Lauderdale). Chanel, Tiffany, Neiman Marcus etc. Pretty plantings, some restaurants and always some great looking Rolls parked.

Ceasar's Forum Shops Mall in LV seemed pretty upscale. It had the regular mix, but also lots of Designer stores - DKNY, Dolce and Gabbana, Bvlgari, Armani, Versace, Louis Vitton and Stuart Weitzman...

Vogue magazine named the Shops at Bal Harbour the most lux shopping center in the US.

Tyson's Corner and Lenox Mall (Phipps) would come in a distant second.

South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Ca. They have every designer store possible, as well as Macy's, Robinson's-May, Sears, etc. There are also some great restaurants.

Any mall with a Macy's or Sears isn't a "SUPER UPSCALE" shopping center. From places I've seen, I would agree with the Bal Harbor shops as number 1. Short Hills is probably in the top five to ten.

I would think there might be some in LA?

How about Woodbury Common, the Upscale Outlet Mall in Central Valley, NY? They've got their share of high end shops.

I live and work 15 minutes from The Mall at Short Hills. It is a pleasant mall to shop at, no rif-raf there!

opps - apparently another post indicated Short Hills has a Macy's?
Well, hopefully my point was clear, even if I feel a little stupid now, but I honestly don't think of Macy's as upscale.

vacationdreamer: I agree that Macy's is not upscale, more like midscale. Although Short Hills has a Macys (NO Sears), it does have Tiffany's, Bloomingdale's, Hugo Boss, Versace, Cartier etc...(I could go on and on). Believe me, it's an upscale mall. You should see the Beemers and Mercedes in the parking lot.

Oak Brook (Chicago suburbs) has NM, Bloomies, Nordstroms, among others. Maybe not "super upscale" but it's still a great place to shop and watch people. I like the outdoors centers more than the malls anymore, as long as the weather isn't too awful.

South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Orange County, CA, is another fun mall. It has a Sears and Robinsons May, but also Saks, Lalique, Tiffany, Gucci, Prada, Donna Karan, Burberry, Tods, Perla, David Yurman, etc. etc. etc.

Personally I think that seeking out malls on vacation is a bit, well, nuts (but hey, this IS a troll post)-- but in the interest of supplying information:

South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa CA has the same chic boutiques as those found at the Bal Harbour Shops in Miami Beach, plus a lot of the usual chain stores and department stores, PLUS a whole section with a focus on home stores (Crate and Barrel mothership store, Z Gallerie, Macy's Home Store, etc.). The best shopping under several roofs (if I'm not mistaken, SCP actually combines three formerly separate malls).

Fashion Island in Newport Beach is an outdoor mall with some upscale stores (anchor department stores are Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's). You go for the lovely atmosphere.

Rodeo Drive isn't a mall per se, but you have to go there. Via Rodeo is a slightly Disney-esque collection of "exclusive" boutiques. For good malls near there, Beverly Center is a fairly upscale experience, and Century City gets wealthy shoppers from the surrounding neighborhoods.

LOL, you will not find a Macy's or a GAP at the Shops at Bal Harbour. They have valet parking.

I think the web site is www.shopsatbalharbour.com
