Where is the best place to view Macy's parade?

Is there a hotel on the route of the Macy's parade that you could view from your window? If not, from experience, where is the best place to stand to view the parade? Thanks

I have friends who in the past have stayed at the Sheraton and viewed the parade from their room. However, these rooms are usually booked 1 - 2 years in advance (no kidding) since they are such prime viewing rooms. Anywhere along the parade route is good, of course the best in front of Macy's, but I believe you have to be an invited guest to sit in their bleachers. I would think the beginning is fun too, actually what is really cool is the night before, when they blow up the balloons on Central park West. An event in itself.

Sheila,

Last year, we stayed at the Broadway Inn B&B about a block west of the parade route. We walked right down the street to Duffy Square, 46th and Broadway and had a great view. We got out there around 8:00 AM and got a perfect spot, in fact, the kids were able to sit on the baracade, front row! At the height of the parade, the crowd was not overwhelming. However it was raining, so some retreated. Anyway, have a wonderful time!

We view the parade from Central Park West, near 62nd St. Get there early (7-8am) if you stand on the street. Or, bring a ladder (many do, the 5-6' variety) and hoist your kids on top. Always a good time. Parking nearby. Buy the NY Times the Wednesday before for the parade listing (in a Macy's ad).
