Hubby says he wants to go somewhere...but won't say where and is open to suggestions for a place that is WARM during Christmas week.
We are a family of 4 (1 teen/1 preteen boys). We've been to Florida (Disney), California, and on a cruise. I've been trying for Hawaii, but from the East Coast my costs have been higher than I think we want to go.
Any suggestions?

Not sure where you are, or if you're close to one of the gateway cities they use, but Apple (for one) has charter deals to Cancun, the Mayan Riviera, and Punta Cana in Dom Rep. Some/most are all-inclusives with many activities for kids. Check the Apple web site or look in the travel section of a metropolitan Sunday paper. Boston Globe, Philly Inquirer, Baltimore Sun, Atlanta Journal-COnstitution would be likely candidates to carry the kinds of ads I mean.

Mexico, Hawaii or Arizona are probably your safest bets. I've spent 2 Christmas in Southern California. One year it was so warm, probably around 82, another year it was cold and overcast. Too iffy maybe.

The way I read it, you're asking forum readers to tell you where it will be warm during Christmas week. How is it you could be skilled enough to access the internet without having learned the fundamentals of geography?

Do you really need to have strangers tell you that Canada would not be a viable option?

Bonnie, regarding Apple, it's a tour company. Packaged tours, airfare & hotel combos.

I actually love So. California the best but admit, it might be hit or miss....might be 85 and sunny or 60 and overcast/sprinkles. I guess Mexico is your best option, or Hawaii is beautiful that time of year. Never been to Arizona so can't comment. I went to Florida one year and almost froze...not a good choice. Warmest January temps in USA are in Miami and Key West, where day time highs average 76 and 75.
Phoenix high is 65.
Palm Springs 66.
San Diego 65.

The only swimming weather in the US in January is off Florida.

If you want genuine heat you must go to Mexico or the Caribbean.
Cancun reaches 80 on average.

Try applevacations.com Coming from the East Coast your best bet would be Mexico, Playa Del Carmen or the DR. It is closer than Hawaii and would be the less expensive. Calif. and Florida are ify and if you have been there all ready try something different.

I'd love to go to Hawaii, but right now can't find any airfares that are reasonable. I found a few hotels that seem affordable (<$150/night) in Honolulu, but with 4 of us, the air prices are just too high (and that's just to Honolulu not the other islands).

I was considering Cancun until I read another post about the stuff that goes on there. Is it really true? The post said that there is drinking in the streets and hedonism all around the hotel zone. Doesn't seem to be a family location.

The Bahamas are a possibility; been there before kids. I'll look into the comfort suites idea. thanks.

You are getting bum information on FL weather. I just ran a quick check for the dates 12-23-01 through 12-30-01 on www.weatherunderground.com. Check any city you might be interested in yourself. Look toward the bottom of "conditions" for "historical" and you can check any day in any area as far back as '94.

The average high temp in Palm Springs that week was 65.5. Phoenix averaged 61.6. Key West averaged 75.1, Naples averaged 71.4. Phoenix never got out of the 60's, neither did Palm Springs. Key West had only 1 day with a high of 68, all the others were 70's and 80's.

Great advice about the weather site--weather underground--I use it frequently when trying to plan future trips, they do give averages..I think they have a section where you can find out the extreme highs and lows month by month. Of course there is always the chance of a fluke--ie I went to San Antonio TX a few years ago in Jan--temp did not go above 35-40 for 3 days!!! 3 days later it was 80!! Also San Diego is very unpredictable in Dec. --Occas. rain and I think average high would not be above 70..
