Where are you planning to go for Spring Break 2004?

Hi all --

I confess to you, I'm already thinking about spring break 2004. Surely some of you Fodorites are planning ahead as well. I've got a few ideas, somewhere warm, but without college crowds...

Probably fly to Rome to visit friends and tour more hilltop towns in Tuscany! There are often tour groups on the plane going over but I usually don't run into many college kids in the little hilltop towns. The college kids usually stick to the big cities (IMO).

San Antonio, only time it's not so hot. I have always wanted to go to Sea World, the Alamo, and need a short drive from home. May hit the Gulf Shore also, DH wants to take his dogs to a beach. I am planning a trip with my Mom is 2005 also.

Just booked a 7-night cruise to Western Caribbean. I'm very excited about it. I haven't been on a cruise since I was in high school (quite some time ago).

Hey ARKANSASNURSE, San Antonio is one of our possibilities as well. The weather should be excellent.

Just wondering - does anybody who isn't in school or have children in school go anywhere for spring break?

Well I am neither a student nor a teacher, but already planning for next April/May either Puerto Rico or a 10 day trip of Vegas/Los Angeles/Long Beach/San Diego. Whew! I only have 10 days for each trip and debating which to take in April and which to take in September/October....

missjanna - The weather in San Diego is far superior in Sept/October than in April. Also, the fall is hurricane season in the carribbean. Happy planning!

We are headed to Hawaii in March, I can hardly wait!

I'm neither a teacher or a student, but am excitedly planning a trip to Waikiki right in the middle of spring break. My boyfriend's birthday is April 2nd so I'm planning to go over there on March 31st for a week. I'd love to stay longer but since I just came back from two weeks over there this summer and am planning to move over by next Thanksgiving, I guess I'll have to settle for one short week in the spring. But since it is spring break, all the airfares are pretty high. Oh well, it'll be worth it when I step off that plane into paradise.

I asked because we usually avoid taking vacations around spring break to avoid the higher travel costs and extra crowds.

jcorrea -- I think you are smart to avoid traveling then if you can get away at other times. I would love to vacation in September or May (or even January to somewhere warm)! But until I retire and my kids grow up, oh well...

I have one in high school still, and we all know what a long time it is from Christmas vacation to Spring break. Plus by then I need time way too, and I get 6 weeks vacation per year.
