The fog is what makes San Fransico so romantic and mysterious. The way it curls around the corners or over the hills, so you never know what lies beyond. No other place like it! I'll be there tonight!

Layers as others have said and long pants including khaki's. I wouldn't bring shorts and tank tops, maybe one pair of capri's and sandals. More long sleeves with a short sleeved T underneath in case it warms up in the afternoon where you are at.

Sorry suze is wrong on this one!

You will want at least one outfit designed for cool and drizzly..that includes long pants, a long sleeved shirt, something warm to put over, and close-toed shoes. ESPECIALLY if you are planning on any excursion over the water such as an Alcatraz trip, and especially if you are coming from 90's.

I agree you should definitely bring long pants, but Suze is still right -- turtlenecks would be overkill!

Maybe a mock neck out on the ferry, LOL. It is cooler now here in the mid summer, than those very warm days we had in our late spring/ early summer around here. I's not even going to hit 80F in San Jose today!

I just went out for lunch - it's 59 degrees at the Embarcadero.

mlgb~ Look I live in Seattle and frequently visit San Francisco.

Feel free to express your personal opinions as different from mine, but PLEASE don't say mine are "wrong".

Because no WAY am I wearing a turtleneck in the summer in San Francisco. Especially since I don't even own one!

EVERYONE says I look and act just like Diane Keaton and she is a "turtleneck kinda gal" as I am most of the time. But I will pass this time.

I would no more go to SF without a pair of long pants and a fleece than I would go to Fiji w/o a bathing suit. No matter what the day or time of day!

But what you get in return is: a beeyoutissiful city where you can happily breathe in and out!

Believe me, I am not lobbying for people to walk around in shorts & t-shirts like the other millions of freezing tourists in SF!

That's what "layering" is all about, to be able to bundle up or strip down depending on minute-to-minute conditions, block-to-block, as mentioned earlier.

I'm back! Thanks for all your advice. Layering is the way to go for sure, but I will add that you should also carry something to put those peeled off layers in! I just had a little purse/backpack and ended up hauling my jacket/sweater/etc. around in my arms/hands. So bring a tote bag big enough for your layers to be carried around in. I will also add that you are not to be fooled into leaving those layers back at your son's apartment! We went to dinner on a lovely early evening when the weather was beautiful and sunny and I swear on a stack of bibles that when we emerged from the restaurant just over an hour later the temperature had dropped 30 degrees. It was a cold walk back to Russian Hill....

SF is the only place I've ever been where the weather can change when you cross the street.
