What To Do In Miami

We will be staying in South Beach for a week in early February. One thing that we want to do is a daytrip over to the Everglades. Any other suggestions on things to do to fill in our week? We pretty much enjoy all kinds of activities.

The Biltmore hotel pool is also amazing. Maybe have lunch there and walk around.

Outside the tourist neighbrhoods, the best thing to do in Miami is to wear Kevlar and duck for cover. ;-)

If visiting Downtown Miami, I’d check out Bayside Marketplace. Yes, it can be a bit of a tourist trap –but it’s also fun. They have a band playing Friday and Saturday nights (after 8:00 PM); take a party boat cruise along the bay; visit the Hard Rock Café or simply window shop. www.baysidemarketplace.com

If you are coming with children, take then to Parrot Jungle www.parrotjungle.com and/or the newly renovated Seaquarium www.miamiseaquarium.com.

Take a walking tour of South Beach’s historic Art Deco district. Their welcome center is located at 1001 Ocean Drive, 305-531-3484.

Why not grab a bite to eat… with a twist?

Bank of America Tower – 100 SE 2nd Street in Downtown Miami – Great view of Miami can be on seen from the 11th floor terrace. Grab a bite to eat at the Sky Grill and take it outside or just venture on the terrace for a fantastic aerial view of Miami.

Don’t think your visit will coincide with the Coconut Grove Arts Festival in February, but you can venture to Coconut Grove (stick to the touristy area). Have lunch at the Sonesta Hotel’s Panorama Restaurant which has sweeping view of the Biscayne Bay. You can do this on the same day you visit Vizcaya!

A trip to the Everglades in February should be comfortable. Not too warm and you won’t be attacked by too many mosquitos during that time of the year. If you have the time, why not drive through the Keys? Key Largo is approximately 30 minutes from Florida City. Grab a bit to eat at Sundowners in Key Largo --the sunset will be free! ;-)

While on your way to the Everglades, be certain to grab a key lime shake at "Bob's Is Right Here."

If you can swim and the weather is good, take a snorkeling tour at Pennekamp State Park on Key Largo.

Unless they changed the name recently, the actual name of the fruit stand is "Robert Is Here".

Thanks. I see some great ideas here. Where is "Robert is Here"? Isn't the Everglades accessable by more than one way?

Oops!
You're correct, LarryBee.
Here's a link for info.

The place is just before you enter what the NPS calls the "Main" Visitor Center.

Hate to do this to you again, Paul, but in the interest of not getting anybody worried after they visit Robert Is Here on their way to ENP, the fruit stand really isn't "just before" the ENP visitor's center. It is actually about 5 miles and roughly 10 minutes driving time away.
