What to do in Danbury, CT

Hubby has a 2 day conference in Danbury. If I go, what can I do? Heard there is a nice mall, but a mall for 2 days??? Not really. Any suggestions? We?d meet up at the end of the day, so I don?t want to be too far away. Thanks for your help.

When are you going? If it's during fall foliage season, the views are magnificent north of there.

If I go, it's this week. That's why I haven't had time to research Danbury.

There are interesting places within a 1 hr drive: Washington CT, CAndlewood lake, Ridgefield CT (old colonial town, small museum, good rests,)South Norwalk, West Hartford has the Mark Twain House. The mall isnt that great by the way--just your avg mall.

This website includes links to places/events that look interesting: http://www.danbury.org/info/

Every time I see a thread like this, I get nervous about the reliability of every posting on the board. First of all, Danbury is NOT 78 miles from Waterbury - more like 25. And IMHO, not really not much of a destination.

There are certainly many places in the Norwalk - Greenwich area, the Maritime Museum, the Bruce Art Museum, the Lockwood Matthews House, etc. but unfortunately there is no major highway between the Danbury area and the Norwalk area, so the trip in each direction could take over an hour.

I'd recommend a short drive to the adjacent town of Ridgefield. There are several interesting cafes, a really great gourmet grocery, and the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, one of the best small art museums in the country. They'll be closing soon for the final stage of a major expansion, so call first to verify that they're still open. 203.438.4519

KenCT is on the right track. Skip Waterbury (even tho, as he says, it is only 25 miles away). The area around Ridgefield (including the town of Kent) is interesting.
