Regardless I would never comment on someone else's vacation plans saying "I find that sad, but this is your trip..." Sorry but that's just plain rude.

I think virtually every hotel in downtown LA would be within a reasonable walk of a Metro station, for some you could take the 25 cent DASH busses to save your feet a bit.

Really? That's enlightening! We're looking at the Wilshire Grand, among others.

Suze—thanks for the support! I appreciate it.

Wilshire Grand is virtually catty-corner from the Metro.

You're most welcome!! Regardless if I'd seen your other thread or not, I hardly see how making fun of someone's interests or chosen activities (and not even suggesting a better alternative) is productive in these forums.

I love Los Angeles and wish you and your family a great trip.

fischerl, be aware that most reviews of the Wilshire Grand mention how tiny the rooms are. About half of the reviews on Tripadvisor, Yelp, Yahoo, etc., are extremely negative. The other half are relatively positive but with comments about tiny rooms, the age and condition of the furnishings, and room-to-room noise.

The hotel's owner, Korean Airlines, recently announced that the hotel will be torn down and the property re-developed. No date was given, but maintenance will probably not be a high priority in the long term.
