Our fave 1.5 hotel "was" Kauai's Islander on the Beach....but it was just sold and they are turning it into cond-tels.
So in 96 mo' days we'll see if it will remain our fave.
Love the location and the fact that we can see the sunrise thru the lanai every morning while laying in bed.
When there is a full moon rising it is un-friggin'believable!
Sit and watch the whales play a few yards offshore while talkin' story w/ locals and guests from all over the world at the pool's bar, The Sand Bar.
Walk over to the CocoMkt Place and bring back a few pies from Aloha Pizza to share with anyone who is hungry at the SB.
Walking distance to Coconuts, Huki Lau, Lemon Grass, Pacific Cafe et al.
Ahhhhhhhh...I'm ready now.

I stayed at the Radisson in Waikiki last September for a week, for $50 a night through Priceline. It was a very nice, smaller, immaculate room with an ocean view. I thought the hotel was wonderful and the staff extremely responsive. The restaurant in the hotel was okay, maybe a little on the pricey side. When I return, I'll try to stay there again.

The Kaanapali Beach Hotel on Maui has the best location on the beach of any of the hotels and is a pretty good deal. I love their tropical, grassy garden area and have fallen asleep in the shade many a day there.

We stayed at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel way back in the 70's and 80's, but haven't been back in recent years. Is it still a nice, moderate hotel? I was worried that it may have become a bit run down.

Another vote for Kaanapali Beach Hotel on Maui for the same reasons Bill said. Great location, great beach. Close to black rock for snorkeling. Walking distance to Whalers Village and restaurants. Yes it's a little outdated but thats also what keeps it moderatley priced. Rooms are clean, free hula show every night, and great Mai Tai's at the Tiki Bar.

Ok, hate to seem stupid, but what does ttt mean? I've been on this board for months and I'm still not sure is it "to the top" or some sort of scolding as in shaking your head and saying "ttt"? Maletas, can you help me out with this?

'ttt' does mean 'to the top' but not in the way you're thinking. When ever you answer a post, the post is automatically moved back to top, as question #1. So, if someone is not getting an answer, and the question is now number 25 or has even gone to the second page as question number 50 or higher, then you can type 'ttt' or 'to the top' and the question will be taken back to the number 1 question at the top.

Sarah-
It's our understanding that all reservations will be honored that were made before a certain date and at the price quoted, like ours.
We just hope that the room we always get isn't being renovated at that time or we probably won't be able to see the sunrise thru our window every morning.

summer04,
It's been about 7 or 8 years since I've been to KBH, but at that time it still was a bit worn around the edges, but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The resort just kinda keeps limping along. The room I had had a nice garden view with a bit of an ocean hit to it. It was QUIET and surprisingly peaceful, which is important to me. It rained pretty hard one day and they had trash cans sitting all over the lobby area catching the rain that was leaking through the roof. LOL! If I ever went back to Maui, I think I would stay there again for a few days.

Well, along with the hotels I think you should take a look at some condos. We stayed at a condo in Princeville this summer for part of our vacation and loved it. It was part of the Marc Resort chain - Pali Ke Kua. It had a terrific snorkeling beach.
