There is a relatively new, outstanding restaurant, Oscar's, just minutes from the airport on Main Street in College Park. The chef is gifted, as good as any in Atlanta. Oscar's is easily accessible on Marta, one stop, 5 minutes, from the airport.

I stopped by the airport area today. The hotel you have chosen, Comfort Inn and Suites, is located on Old National Parkway--I think from the airport take I-85 to Old National Highway exit, left/south on Old National Highway, and left again onto Old National Parkway at the first street where sign indicates Fairfield Inn and Red Roof Inn. The building is newer, clean, with access through lobby to interior hallways, open/ungated parking lot. The neighborhood on Old National Highway consists mostly of gas stations, fast food restaurants, car washes, adult bookstores, pawn shops, and vacant stores. That's what I don't like about the area. The Fairfield Inn across the street has gated parking lot and may cost less. Next door is a Picadilly Cafeteria restaurant and on Old National Highway are a Red Lobster and Longhorn Steak restaurant. I don't know their hours--a consideration for American restaurants.

Another area by the airport is the Sullivan Road area--a group of hotels next to the airport and an industrial area. Hotels in that area in the same price range as the Comfort Inn are Amerisuites (Manger's Special) and Wingate. These is a Ruby Tuesdays restaurant there and a Bennigans nearby.
More expensive hotels (if you are arriving on a weekend you can probably get a special) in the area include Hampton Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, and Marriott.

The next area is the Virginia Avenue strip. It is busy with Delta employees during the day--I don't know at night. It has another Courtyard, Crowne Plaza, and Country Inn. Restaurants are a Malones and fast food.

Another option as you are picking up your car that night. You could drive on I-75 to the suburb of Morrow (20 minutes) - Mount Zion exit where there are motels, restaurants, and shops. Located there are Country Inn and Extended Stay America. Restaurants include Chilis, Joe's Crab Shack, fast foods, etc. You'd have more restaurant selections there, but you'd have to be alert enough to drive after the flight.

Let me just second the recommendation for Oscar's just north of the airport. Had two great meals there earlier this year.
