what is the average altitude in Alaska
Hi, my husband and I are visiting in Aug/Sept and I was wondering what the average altitude is. I have high blood pressure and the medicine that I take for it does not work well with high altitude. I can not find the altitude is any information that I have and I need to know if I have to bring along other medication to combat the lightheadedness that I get. Thanks

Hi, Wanda,
All the towns in Southeast Alaska (where cruises go) are at sea level, as are the Prince William Sound towns and Anchorage. Fairbanks is a few hundred feet above sea level. In most parts of the state building at higher altitudes was impractical because of the weather.
Obviously there are high mountains, but for the most part I doubt if you'll experience difficulty. Remember most jets are pressurized to 5000 or 6000 feet, so if your doctor allows you to fly I'd be surprised if visiting Alaska will be a problem. There are doctors in Alaska, anyway.
