Supposedly hit the CNN building and the Omni Hotel. They were showing pictures of the damage earlier -around 11:00 pm.

Windows blown out of hotels downtown and the basketball game called off. Witnesses said it sounded just like a train. A CNN person calling in from the Cabbagetown area said there was wind damage there. I was arriving at a friend's house just as the news came on CNN. She texted family at home (east of Atlanta) but no damage there. What a freak storm. You don't expect a tornado to hit downtown.

Continual local news coverage. "Extensive damage" reported in downtown Atlanta.

Several streets are closed. I saw pictures on the news of several houses in splinters.

SEC tournament will continue at the Georgia Tech stadium, which only holds 9,000 people, so most people who have tickets will not get to go to game.

Some Georgia State students were evacuated from their dorm. My daughter goes to Georgia Tech; she was out at a restaurant during the storm, and she couldn't get back to her dorm after the storm.

Dozens of cars crushed by debris, trees. A building "pancaked" down, but no one was inside the building. Centennial Park suffered extensive damage.

As of a few minutes ago, news reported 27 people injured, no deaths.

Day after they are again under tornado watch. My DD and family moved back to CA last week. Now, just have to hope their house is safe--they have to sell it soon! (I know, not good timing--but at least we are all on the same coast now).
