Hi Chris -

I guess it depends on what you mean by "boring". If you are looking for a swinging nightlife scene, Kauai is definitely not your island. However, my husband and I spend 2 weeks on Kauai every year and boredom has never been an issue with us. There's plenty to do and see during the day, and as active as we are in availing ourselves of the various eco-adventures, hikes, golfing, beaches, etc., we're pretty pooped by the evening! To me, there's no comparison between Maui and Kauai - Maui has its own beauty, but it has been built up considerably, whereas Kauai has strict zoning restrictions on building and development. Have fun wherever you decide to go, and remember - it's a nice dilemma and one where you really can't lose!

My recommendation is Maui. My husband and I spent three weeks in the islands last summer. (Big Island, Maui, and Kauai)We tried three hotels during our stay-- the Renassiance, the Grand Wailea, and the Outrigger. Of the three, the outrigger wailea was our favorite. It is a very quiet resort and extremely relaxing. The rooms are very close to the oceon. The sunsets are incredible and it's a great value for your dollar.

Although most people would probably disagree with me, we weren't crazy about kauai. If you want to see the most beautiful part of the island, you will need to go to the north shore. The problem is that it rains alot on this side of the island. We spent six days not being able to see anything because it was so foggy.

Maui is a sure bet for sunshine and the Wailea area is stunning. Go next door to the Grand Wailea and try the spa. It is something you won't ever forget.

One more tip, for optimal relaxation, 2 islands may be best for seven to nine days. Three might be too much racing around!

Good luck in making your decision.

Cindy

Maui is the best for sight seeing and activities, take plenty of food and drink and make the entire ( road to hana by car trip ) start early and stop at all the sites. Maui just has so much more to offer , i like Kauai but it is kind of rual and really a small driving island. have fun nick

I have been to Kauai twice and have never run out of things to do. It is more quiet, beautiful scenery, absolutely wonderful. Would recommend the book "Ultimate kauai guidebook". It gives you all the details and out of the way places to see. We took several short hikes to nujkerous waterfalls and we were the only ones there!

Hi!

We went to Maui and the Big Island this summer, and had an awesome time at both.

We found Maui to be beautiful, relaxing, and not too expensive. However, we did cook our own meals, which helped. The groceries can be pricey, but sushi-grade tuna was pentiful, and cheap.

We stayed at a condo resort called Maui Kai, which had studios and suites, at very reasonable prices- our room with kitchen was $119/night. It was very roomy, and every room was ocean front with balcony. And the hotel was about 5 feet from the actual water.

I think you will only enjoy this hotel if you are independent, and not looking for a resort. There was a pool, but it was small and not on the ocean. But as far as room size, decor, and price went, it was perfect for us.

Gosh, I sound like a travel agent or something, just trying to demonstrate that you can stay in Maui inexpensively! Have a good vacation
