What does LOL mean?

Sorry that I am so dumb, but everyone uses this expression on this forum, and I don't understand it.

there are some other weird shorthands, I still haven't figured out!

The other two that I have seen are BTW (by the way) and IMO (in my opinion). Any others?

On the net 'LOL' usually means 'Laugh Out Loud' as others have said.

Another common abbreviation is YMVV: Your Mileage May Vary
