I am a Verizon customer-- their America's Choice is ideal for me when I travel...I live out in the boondocks so INSIDE my house is sometimes iffy..but at the top of my driveway, I get good service ( came in handy during the Hurricane that hit us in Sept)...

My neighbor's had Suncom and another had Virgin- NEITHER of those companies worked during the hurricane..

Verizon is the company with the most towers so reception is supposed to be the best..I honestly think the QUALITY of the phone is the main clinker- as I had a much better and more expensive Motorola phone ( that Verizon went to upgrade and fried it--) and when the upgrade screwed up, they gave me a cheaper Motorola ( as my model was discontinued)==the 2nd phone is not near as good as the first one...And both were digital....

I just read in the business section of the news that there is a back order on cell phones. It seems that manufacturers can't make them fast enough right now. I would think that this will even out soon, and provide even better deals (still!).

Wouldn't it be great if one of these companies ONLY charged you for the minutes you used, rather than selling you a block of minutes that you might never use? (...And charging you like crazy if you go 'over' your alloted minutes)

I don't normally have a cell phone, but two years ago when taking 5 months to go from Florida to Alaska via New York, Maine, across Canada, and home via California and across the midwest, I signed up with Cingular. It proved very good. I kept expecting roaming charges or other problems, but never had a single one. And other that a couple of very remote parts of the Yukon, I never had a connection problem.

Hubby clark and i both have Verizon America's Choice and love it. Our teens both have sprint (on their grandparents plan) We do pay more but we always have service.

In fact, we were surprised on our recent out-west road trip, when we had service in Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. (DS Rusty and his GF were having an issue and he HAD to call.... )

My new Motorola T730 also gives me access to Mobile Net, a cool and necessary benefit when on the road. Its 495/mth and well worth it.

We have TMobile because we can use it in Europe. It worked great there. And here in the States. Except in my high-rise office, where the clarity is lost. Go figure.

When I moved to the NYC area four years ago I signed up for Sprint and dropped it very quickly - where I was living in north Jersey the Sprint system was dropping 2 out of 5 calls and sometime more. One of their back line support people admitted (in a round-about way) that they oversell the servie - too many users in many areas - this equals dropepd calls.

I switch to Verizon's America's Choice plan and service has been consistently excellent. I travel regularly and the service has been good all over the country. I recently moved back to Syracuse from the NY area - my colleagues are ona company plan from Sprint and they all complain of chronic problems with dropped calls. I'm sticking with Verizon.

By the way - AT&T operate at a different waveleng

Friend just told me that Sprint was no longer paying AT&T and that's the reason there are so many dropped calls..seems they broke their alliance..
