Westin in Key Largo?

My husband and I are thinking of staying at the Westin for a few days in early November. Has anyone been there? Can you offer any info? Thanks!!

We stayed there last spring. It's a basic hotel with a few extra amenities that you don't always find on the beach. Some unsolicited advice/opinion. I don't find this to be one of the nicer keys. If you go just a little farther south to Islmorada or Marathon, it's much nicer.

Debbie,
I stayed at the Westin in Key Largo last Feb and had a great time. It is also only 5 minutes drive from the John Pennekamp, which is the country largest under park. Perfect from snorkeling, diving, parasailing etc.

Have fun.

We stayed there over Labor Day weekend and loved Key Largo! It's so relaxing and yes, close to John Pennekamp.

About the hotel --
I found Westin to be ok, but the bay view we had was well worth the extra money.

However don't be misled by their "private beach" claim. We were totally disappointed when we saw this pathetically skinny strip of sand where you would have problem even passing through the people. It's basically used as a launching place for water sports equipment.

I agree with the above poster--it's not a "beach". When we stayed there, we discovered when building a sand castle, that there was actually a concrete slab about 6 inches down! Personally, I would drive on through Key Largo to Islamorado or Key West--we wish that we had!

This is my familiar "beach" rant regarding the Keys: Yes, it is true that if you want to build sandcastles, play in the surf, or take long walks on the beach, then most of the Keys isn't going to cut it. But if you want to sit in the sun by the water and sip a tropical drink, go snorkeling, or rent a kayak or waverunner, then you'll love the Keys "beaches", including those on Key Largo. And while I will agree that Key Largo is the least attractive of the Florida Keys, I would point out that this is relative; kind of like the "worst of the best". Bottom line, take your trip to Key Largo and enjoy yourselves, and maybe drive down to Islamorada some afternoon. That way you can see for yourself the difference, and start planning your next Keys trip!

We stayed last spring and fell in love with the place. The staff are really friendly and the place is paradise. So much so that we almost missed our flight home to England, we just didn't want to leave. We going again next April, but staying for longer. That says it all!
