West Palm Beach, Boca, Jupiter
We are planning a visit to Port St. Lucie to see the Mets spring training in March. I hear that there is not much to do in Port St. Lucie so we thought we would stay in either WPB, Boca or Jupiter. Which would be the best for beachfront, easy accesibility to restaurants and shopping. We have two boys ages 15 and 11. Also, which resorts would you recommend.

Hi...
Driving and time wise you should consider staying in Jupiter.... coming as far south to Boca is wasting alot of time driving.
For interest, in Hobe Sound there is a beach area called Blowing Rocks, I think its a state park or nature preserve (not sure), in high tide you can watch the waves shoot up from the rock and in low tide you can walk down into the caves.. I always enjoy going there.
I would imagine that Port St Lucie has plenty of restaurants and things to do for your boys. Keep looking, I dont think making long drives to WPB or Boca is worth the hassel.
Have fun!

thank you for the advice. We were only able to get a flight into Fort Lauderdale so we will be traveling up from there. How long is the drive from Ft. Lauderdale to WPB if we decided to stay there and then drive back and forth to Port St. Lucie. Or does that not make sense. Do you know of any good hotels in Port St. Lucie?

There's a Springhill Suites, a Hampton Inn and a Hilton Garden Inn in St. Lucie West. They are all near the stadium. There is also a Holiday Inn, but that's on US 1, quite a ways from the stadium, but not far from the beach. (Port St. Lucie is HUGE area wise).
In the area around the field there are lots of shops and chain type places to eat. There's also a movie theater and a bowling center that has, batting cages, mini golf and lazer tag and an arcade.
Ft. Lauderdale to WPB is maybe around 45 minutes? It's been awhile since I've driven to that airport (and I usually come from Stuart and Stuart to the FLL airport is around an hour and a half)
If your stay is short, I would stay in PSL, for longer stay, I'd try for somewhere like Jupiter or elsewhere in northern Palm Beach County. I wouldn't say there's a lot more to do there, but there's probably more of a variety of shops, restaurants, etc.
Johnathan Dickinson State Park is near Blowing Rocks, and is a nice park for hiking. They also have canoe rentals and a boat tour.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now!

The entire area is great but I'd opt for Singer Island. The boys can see the manatees, snorkel Peanut Island, watch the boats on Lake Worth, take the water taxi tour, hit Sailfish Marina on Thursdays for their festival, eat at the waterfront restaurants, play on the beach, bike the Lake Worth Trail, tour Rybovich and see how they make the mega yachts, etc.

I'm in WPB and all week the TV has been telling us about the beach erosion on Singer Island. Even Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel is broadcasting from there.
If you are going to pick a hotel on SI, I would call the and see about the condition of their property.
It is a lovely place except after big storms, they have been cursed with alot of erosion.
I would pick a property in Jupiter.

Not sure about beach erosion in Singer Island, however today the wind is gone...
I would say the drive time bewteen FLL and WPB is just under an hour, but dont forget that 95 is under construction in Lake Worth at 6th Ave, delays delays delays......
