Weekend Getaway from NYC

My husband and I (early 30s) were hoping to get away for a few days in February. We would prefer not to drive more than 4-6 hours from NYC. Neither of us really ski but we would consider giving it a try with lessons. Just looking to relax, a great little town to visit with some shopping - a great resort is preferred with good food. Any ideas?

Went to a place in the poconos called the Skytop Lodge a few weekends ago. Not cheesy at all, as I expected the poconos to be. Very classy and tons to do. They have a website too so check it out. There's skating, skiing, snowmobiling, restaurants, pubs, etc.
Kind of pricey but I promise, quaint and classy. And only about 2 hrs from nyc.

Four hour drive up to Woodstock, VT would be lovely. Just watch out for school vacation weeks (the last two in Feb).

Try the Reluctant Panther bed and breakfast in manchester village, vermont. GREAT GOURMET dinner...romantic..good shopping town...near stratton and bromley...next door to Equinox Inn - a bustling, family oriented old fashioned inn - also nice but not so romantic...go to reluctantpanther.com! see photos...

Another vote for Manchester, Vt. Many places are nice - my preference is the Equinox, but 1811 House or Wilburton Inn are also good choices. Without traffic and in good weather, it's under 4 hours. It's better to avoid President's Week (2/14 - 2/23) if possible, but if you find yourselves traveling then, it's still fine.

Saratoga Springs!

I live near there, and can't figure why I don't visit more often. Beautiful buildings, nice compact downtown area, all sorts of things to do. Served by Amtrak (you would need a taxi, ~1.5 mi to town). Lodging available at variety of levels, from Gideon Putman to Holiday Inn, to Community Court Motel. Not too far from downhill skiing, XC skiing at Spa State Park. Hot mineral baths & massage. Maybe go up to Lk George/Bolton Landing for an overnight at Sagamore.
