websites for best prices on NYC hotels

For some time many Fodorites thought quickbook.com was one of the better websites for competitive NYC hotel prices. I notice lately their prices don't seem very good. Other than checking hotels' own sites or using Priceline, what websites do you find have good prices for NYC?

That is agood question mclaurie. I noticed when I was looking up rates for our trip in Dec, expedia & orbitz were pretty much the same IMO. Wish there was something like Priceline, without the priceline hastle. I did Hotwire, but it was not much better than Expedia or Orbitz. What to do what to do .

mclaurie, occupancy levels have been tracking so high in NYC over the past six months, the rates the hotels are giving the discounters aren't very good.

Also, the major chains now all guarantee the lowest rates of their own websites.

Meant to add, the best rates I'm seeing are on hotwire.

Hi, quikbook is very good and I had made a reservation for my upcoming trip to NYC in Feb. I then was checking and found travelocity.com was doing a slightly better rate for a better category room. I think it is just the luck of the draw. Expedia.com is not as good as it used to be as they are just so large IMHO. http://www.nyc.com/ claims to have the lowest rates, but I have never used them.

Hotels.com is by far the best pricing I have seen online. I have used it now in San Francisco and Atlanta and will be using it again for 2 more trips to Denver and Las Vegas soon.

Geez, I sound like a commercial, lol, but the prices really were good, and easy to compare. Each listing also has a picture of the hotel and amenities as well as rates.

Hope this helps.
