Weather on Mackinac Island in mid-May

Hi Michelle - I lived close to the island (in Cheboygan) for a year and Lisa is right, if you're lucky, it *may* be that warm. That area of Michigan doesn't get hot in the spring/summer unless a fluky weather pattern is going through. The island has a great website:

That should give you all the information you need. It's been a lot of years since I lived there, so I can't recall if everything is open before Memorial Day. One suggestion I have, is to be sure to get some fudge in Mackinaw City.....YUMMY!
Enjoy your trip.

We have been there mid-May for our anniversary twice. One time is was sunny in the low 70's and the other time it was rainy 50's. Definitely
bring a jacket and pair of pants.
If you are staying on the island and are not staying right in the "downtown"
Mission Point and Grand Hotel (If thats what you want to call it) make sure you bring an umbrella. Most everything is open but shortened hours. I think the boat schedules weren't running as frequent too.
Have a nice time and hope you get good weather!

Star Line Ferry offers area residents free ferry service to/from the island early in the season every year. We've gone to the island in the cold rain, and we've been there in gorgeous weather. Last year was outstanding!
The best advice I can give you is "Be Prepared". Seriously, be prepared for anything. It has snowed on my husband's birthday (May 12). Layer up. You can hop on a bike downtown in a t-shirt, but when you get partway around the island you will wish for a sweatshirt, coat, and maybe even mittens. In the summer that blast of wind and cold air is a lifesaver, but in May it can be a shock.

Hi Michelle, we got married on the island on May 22nd. Don't bother with shorts, chances are you won't wear them. It's as least 5 degrees cooler on the island than on the mainland, always. Bring sweaters and jackets, even mittens for evening walks. Most things will be open. Have fun! The island can be a little dreary that early - not many plants or trees blooming yet - but it's still beautiful.
