A quick spin through the Weather Channel's website will give you a wealth of information, such as daily weather stats for the whole year:

I live near DC & can tell you that September 1 is definitely still summer, but on the border of the weather getting fickle in getting to Autumn. It should be in the low 80's unless we have a cold snap and end up in the 60's.

As KimF alluded, there is no such thing at typical weather in the DC area. It can be 60 one day and 90 the next in September.
To make it worse, the weather forecasters are clueless. If they predict rain, get out your shorts.
Washington's weather is one of the primary reasons we moved from Washington.

Aw, come on! September & October are about the best weather months we have! Not too hot, not cold. Less rain than the spring, not as hot or humid as the summer or cool, gray or wet in the winter. Only the occasional 5 o'clock thunderstorm or hurricane to worry about! LOL - Come and visit for Labor Day through Thanksgiving!
