We found an extra weekend - Virginia?

We are planning a spur of the moment trip to Charlottesville, Virginia. I have rooms booked at The Boars Head Inn and at Keswick Hall. Which do you recommend? We have never been to Virginia before. Any suggestions for day time activities or dinner reservations? I hate to ask for so much help but we just decided to go and I don't have time to do my usual research and planning. Please help.
Thank you

It's a beautiful time of year to stay at either place - but Keswick Hall is a bit farther out from Charlottesville (to the east) and a bit more rural, so it should be gorgeous. It's a very elegant place - fairly expensive too. Their food is fantastic. Boars Head Inn is a bit closer to town and very nice also. I would pick based on how important it is for you to be close to town. If not important - go to Keswick. If it's important - go to Boars Head.

1jan1, where did you find this extra weekend? Where was it missing? Wish I could find an extra weekend! LOL.
Don't take this personal, just got a good chuckle when I read your title.
Too funny. Have fun in Virginia.

'LoveItaly' - Well, I love Italy too but just don't have time to get there this weekend.
Really, We had already sort of saved this weekend for something else and then it didn't come thru - so there was my found weekend. Pets and plants were already taken care of so we decided to leave town and just go where we haven't gone before.
Sometimes the unplanned is so much fun.

I loved my stay at the Boars Head a few years back. And their restaurant is very good. I was also in the area visiting friends recently and I can tell you where NOT to eat. Don't waste your time on the restaurants in the downtown Mainstreet mall. Although the setting is nice, especially if the weather cooperates, the food is over-priced and not partiularly good.

Congratulations on finding that weekend!
