WDW without a car
Hi,
I will be vacationing at WDW in September (3 nights) with family members (all together 10 people : 8 adults 2 kids age 4 and 16 month old
I agree with many that WDW resort is better choice since I don't have to worry about traffic and hassle of using two cars to carry 10 people. So I don't plan on using rental cars during my vacation. My question is will we be bored by staying in the WDW resort for 4 days ? Do you recommend that I get a rental cars ? And how bad is the local traffic around the park area ?
Thank you

There is no way you could be bored in only 4 days at WDW. You won't even be close to seeing everything there in 4 days. The WDW transportation system will take you to the Boardwalk or Downtown Disney for evening entertainment, if you think you'll need it. But I can't imagine that you would.

You will wish you had more time! There is so much to do..You should go look for WDW websites to help you plan your four days so you can see as much as possible.
There is absolutely no reason to rent a car. There are shuttles that run from all hotels to all parks at all times of day and night..Have fun!

we've stayed as long as 12-14 days at a time without getting "bored" .. WDW is a totally immersive experience & environment. I think anything less than 6-7 days is going to be a sensory overloaded blur. A car truly is unnecessary and a burden-- the WDW transport system is free & excellent.

Bored, You'll wish you had more time!!!
Trust me, There's no way you'll be bored in Disney World for 4 days... That won't be enough time. So many things to do and see!! Don't forget the fireworks show in the evening, also check out Pleasure Island for nightime entertainment (clubs- jazz, comedy, house of blues, and more). The Disney buses also go to Pleasure Island at night.

I agree totally that you don't need a car - the only problem I see, is if you are coming by air, I believe you need to take a shuttle from the airport in Orlando to the Disney hotels. If there are 10 of you, this is going to become very expensive. I have priced renting a car, vrs. the shuttle to the hotels, and I always save more money with the car. Also, you're going to be there only four days, which will limit your ability to experience a lot of the fun. I find the buses take much longer to get around in - the only exception is if you are staying in one of the hotels off of the monorail, and you take the bus into the Magic Kingdom - it lets you off right at the gate. If you decide to get the car, it also allows you to eat outside of Disney, or stop at the store to get snacks, etc. this may not be an issue for such a short stay. Again, just compare the price. I thought the Mears shuttle was extremely expensive - And I don't believe the price is round trip back to the airport. Good luck!

Your 4 days at Disney will go by so fast, you won't believe it. As Cal said, you won't even scratch the surface. I agree that for the most part it is not necessary to have a rental car. My husband and I have visited several times without every using a car. The transportation at WDW is wonderful. We did have a car on our last visit (we organized a soccer tournament there and needed the minivan) and I have to admit, it was nice to have with our then-19 month old. At times, we wanted to go back to our hotel (All-Star Music) without waiting for a shuttle, which can be a pain with a stroller. Regarding transportation to and from the airport, you may want to try Tiffany Town Car. We used them and were very satisfied. I know they can transport a party of 10 to and from the airport in a van for much cheaper than Mears or Transtar. The website is www.tiffanytowncar.com. One piece of advice, however. Don't feel you have to keep the entire party together the entire time. If the kids are yours, keep their needs in mind first.

You didn't ask about this, but I'll just mention that having high-powered walkie talkies and cell phones will be really useful with a group as large and varied as yours. We used walkie talkies recently at Disneyland, and it was very helpful. Post back if you want further info, or do a search for walkie talkies.
My last trip to WDW was for four nights, and we did get the car. I need to get away from Disney for dinner, and I found that our hotel food court(Carribean Beach Resort) could not handle the crowds very well, and sometimes the crowds waiting for shuttles looked large to me. Also, we went to local supermarkets for breakfast items to store in the room and for supplies for the parks.
