Washington Plaza Hotel -- any thoughts?

I'm going to be in DC for the entire last week of July and thought it would be nice to beat the heat and humidity at a hotel with a pool. Coupled with the reasonable rates on expedia, orbitz and lastminute, the photos and description of the Washington Plaza make it sound perfect. Any words of wisdom?

It's not a glamorous hotel, but the pool always looks inviting and not a bad location. The immediate neighborhood is D.C.'s current "hot" neighborhood with high-end furniture stores relacing crack houses and coffee shops replacing liquor stores. It looks a little rough, but quite safe.

It's OK. Nice enough area but a bit of a walk to the Metro in that heat. Some nice restaurants close by.

OK place - lots of bus tours. They have a hot bar. ON far side of Thomas Circle in transitional area that I wouldn't walk in when dark. Wouldn't recommend for those used to Marriots.

I think the neighborhood is safe at night and walked it many times, but it depends on what you are used to. If you are comfortable with cities and a little "grittiness," it is fine. If the thought of that is scary, than probably not a good location.
