Washington DC hotel and reservations
I am traveling to DC in June with my husband, son and daughter. We are planning to stay at the Embassy Suites Chevy Chase Pavilion. Is this a nice property? Also, was planning to make reservations through Capitol Reservations. Has anyone had experience with them? Thanks

I live in DC and I always recommend that hotel to visitors. It's in a great (although more suburban) part of town, in a building directly over a metro station, within walking distance of a lot of shops and food. If you're looking for chain restaurants, there's a Cheescake Factory in the building and a Maggianos a few doors down. Across the street is an upscale mall with a Nieman Marcus and a plush (but expensive), stadium seating movie theater. I doin't know about the reservation service you mentioned, but the last time my in-laws stayed there they found a great rate (better than other hotel discounters) on the Embassy Suites web page. For some reason they couldn't book it on the web page and the hotel itself wouldn't give it to them, but they called they chain's 1-800 number and got it.

Thank you so much for your reply. I went ahead and made the reservation today with Capitol Reservations and got a good rate. Could you also tell me anything about the zoo? Is it close to a metro stop or is it quite a long walk from the metro? How long do you recommend we spend there? Thanks again in advance.

I live in DC (also), in fact very close to the zoo. You should definitely go there to se the new pandas!
The zoo is accessible by Metro (subway). There's even a stop called Woodley Park/Zoo, but I would STRONGLY SUGGEST getting off at the Cleveland Park stop instead. It's just as close to the zoo, only it goes downhill rather than uphill. There's no sign directing you which way to go at this stop, but just ask a local wheich way the zoo is--we don't bite. You can expect a 10 minute walk to the zoo from the subway stop. I think the zoo might run a shuttle--but I wouldn't rely on that. Good Luck and have fun!

The Embassy Suites Chevy Chase Pavilion is a nice property I think. The atrium as well as the exterior of the hotel look very nice as does the facilites at the hotel.
By the way if you haven't visited the Embassy Suites Washington DC web site you should. The web site address is:
http://www.embassysuitesdcmetro.com/
The web site offers you a chance to see information on all the metro Embassy Suites as well as the Chevy Chase Pavilion location. In addition, you can view a virtual tour of the entire property from the exterior to the rooms.
Hope this helps!
