Can anyone suggest Continental US warm spots in Jan 20-30 period other than FL?
Is Arizona (painted desert) warm in Jan?

Your best bets are:
San Diego (56.8F)
LA (56)
Phoenix (52.3)
New Orleans (52.4)
Texas (San Antonio, Houston)

Winter is rainy season in San Diego, although there hasn't been much rain to speak of in the last couple of years.

Another vote for the San Antonio suggestion.
We went one year in Feb and it was already in the 80s and sunny. Loved it!

You'll find warmth in both Palm Springs and Scottsdale at that time of year, but you'll also find high season crowds.

NEW ORLEANS ISN'T TOTALLY WARM DURING JANUARY, BUT THERE ARE DAYS THAT YOU CAN WHERE JEANS AND A T-SHIRT. IT IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE YOUR NEXT BET OTHER THAN FLORIDA.

I live in Houston; it is almost always warm in Jan. The Johnson Space Center (NASA's Mission Control) is here if you're interested. San Antonio tends to be a bit cooler (~3 hrs away) and has the Riverwalk -- "river" running through the heart of the city, with walking paths/shopping/dining alongside. Very scenic if the weather is nice. We went over Christmas and it was COLD!!

I think the reason the coastal cities of LA and SD would make the list while the PS area would not is due to the nights. We have a much wider swing from daytime to nighttime temperatures.

The Pacific Ocean moderates night time temperatures. But there is no question that the days are warmer in the desert than on the coast in the winter. For a more accurate indicator I would check the daytime average, not the 24 hr average.
