Want someone to work 4 U?

Hi there!
I am a 29-year-old Brazilian male teacher of English and I have been a couple of times to the States. First one in NYC, second one in SD. I am moving to the States next year and would like to know if anyone need a person to work around the house with fixing , gardening, driving kids to school, running errands, etc. I am willing to work for a family. I need some experience in the American culture, since the two times I was in the US were for no more than a month. Besides I want to teach my students how life is in America.
I am a very communicative person and I like to make friends.
If you are someone who needs a helping hand and don't wnat to spend too much money paying the wrong person, contact me!
See you!
Daniel

well, you know advertising isn't allowed on these boards. HOwever, if you are a teacher you should be able to get a better job than that teaching in the US as I've read there is a shortage of good foreign language teachers in US middle and high schools. If you know fluent Spanish, at least--not much call for Portuguese language teachers here. Really, that would be more appropriate than odd jobs for you.

You might look into ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching positions. Many school systems are having a hard time finding teachers who are qualified and certified for these jobs.

I get the impression Daniel is looking for an opportunity to live with an American family, not for a job. I also question whether he would be able to get a job with a public school system without a teaching degree from a U.S. college. ESL teaching in a private school or a commercial academy is a possibility, however.

Whatever you do, if you are planning on working in the US you should first make sure that you have the proper work permit or green card. Since you have advertised on the net, your name is probably already flagged by someone at INS or US customs.

There are many teachers in US schools that don't have teaching degrees from US colleges. Many US school districts are even importing teachers from foreign countries (such as Spain) to teach certain subjects due to teacher shortages, mainly languages but even other subjects such as math if the district has a lot of Spanish-speaking students (e.g., New Mexico does this). Some school districts have special programs where they allow such teachers to teach without the typical credentials; they can do whatever they want if they need the teachers, especially for just a year or so. In fact, many schools are even allowing US residents to teach without teaching credentials, there are special programs for that where they can teach for a while (a year or two) as long as they are working for the credential and the school even helps pay the tuition. People who don't know anything about a topic shouldn't be posting on it, but this is a real ego problem on these boards where people post on anything even when they have zero knowledge of the subject, such as Diane above.

FYI further resources on the subject: first, an excellent recent article in the Wash Post 7/4/00 on this subject entitled "Schools Desperate for Foreign Language Teachers" will give you lots of ideas (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2000Jun29.html).
A web site called Foreign Language Teach has lots of links, info and resources for foreign language teachers(www.cortland.edu/www/flteach) and finally the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (www.actfl.org) has job listings in US schools.
