I have seen several mentions of Wall Drug whilst browsing the forums. We are visiting from the UK in the summer and would be glad if someone could tell us what and where Wall Drug is. I am assuming it is some sort of museum but may be wrong!!

Dot -- It is kind of a cowboy, western museum in Wall, South Dakota. Just google Wall Drug and you will get all kinds of information.

Wall Drugs is most famous for its road side signs that usually give you the mileage from where the sign is to the location in Wall, SD.

I90 thru South Dakota will have road-side signs about every mile or so telling you how much closer you are to Wall than you were a mile back....

The store itself is rather fun, worth a stop if your just passing through on the way to Rapid City or further west. Badlands National Park is very near by as well.

It's a sprawling joint, loaded with kitsch, that your should check out if it's on your route, but it isn't worth a very long detour (in my humble opinion).

Wall Drug, a testament to advertising. Kind of interesting in a kitschy sort of way but they did have the best selection of Sioux pottery I saw anywhere out there if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Loaded with schlock would be a better term. Don't waste your time going there.

Do they still advertise a free glass of water??!!

Wall Drug is the only big thing in an area that has a vast amount of nothing. It's on the way to other places. Unless you are going that way for something else, don't make it a destination.

North or South Dakota? I don't remember which. The world's biggest pit stop.

Don't you love hearing from people who have NEVER EVER stopped at any touristy place in their entire lives? Of course, if you could see where they LIVE....

Dotty6, you might also be interested in a place on the East Coast called "South of the Border"..similar sort of concept in northern South Carolina.

Wall Drug was a little cheesy BUT if we hadn't stopped to see it we would have wondered what we missed. After 1000 miles of billboards we just couldn't pass by without at least checking it out. While you are passing through South Dakota, if you have an hour or so to spare, stop and see the Pioneer Auto Museum. My husband is into cars and as we left our hotel after an overnight stop in Murdo we passed the car museum. He asked if I cared if we stopped for a few minutes to take a look. It was great! They had several buildings of cars, motorcycles, farm equipment, just about every type of vehicle you could think of. I'm not really into cars but I actually really enjoyed it. Great place for husbands and kids!

Thanks to all for your replies - it has been one of those things that has raised my curiousity but until now have not tried to find out anything more about it. These forums are great as they also give a personal slant on things. If we have time think we will probably stop and have a look.

Also my opinion that if you're in the neighborhood it's worth a stop but I would not spend time driving there. We stopped for the free water and spent about an hour walking around. Store after store after store

Wall drug is the most hideous and kitchy place in the whole USA. It's near IS 90 near the road to the Badlands.S.Dakota.Viusit the BADLANDS and the Black hills forget about Wall drug.Paul
