For those who have been to Wailea I have a question. We are staying in Wailea for 14 nights in December for our honeymoon at my Aunt and Uncle's condo in Elua Village. We know we will be within walking distance to the big resort hotels.

My Aunt said years ago when my cousin was a little boy the resorts were very layed back and let them walk on in and take him to their pools. But now they are must stricter and do not permit this. Yet I see many honeymooners mention on bridal boards such as the Knot, that they went to the Grand Wailea and other resorts and hung out at the pool etc.

I am considering booking a night or two at the Grand Wailea during our stay - and will probably do it regardless just so we can get some pampering and sit by a big pool etc. But if we can do this for free - why bother right? I know the pool is for paying guests only and I respect that - but if they permit others to use the pool there is no sense in us booking a room for a night.

Anyone have any experience with this?

No direct experience using another resort's pool -- sorry. But from my stays at several Wailea resorts, I recall that to get towels, you must give a name/room number or show the resort's activities card. And if you are using the pool with a towel that is not one of the resort's, that can be red flag.

You have to wear a wristband - and to get this you have to show a key. There's almost no chance of slipping into the pools at GW.

I stayed at the Kei Lani a year ago, and we did not have to have wristbands at the pool. I think the only way they knew we were guests was the beach towels we had, but anyone can get those from the cabana by the pool. They didn't ask room number or ID. The 4 Seasons looked to be the same. However, we definitely noticed wristbands in use at the Grand Wailea when we walked by the property.
