waikiki sunday brunch

Hi everyone. We have narrowed down our choice for Sunday brunchi Waikiki to the Royal Hawaiin or the Moana Surfrider. Does anyone have a preference?

Tough call! I've only been to dinner at Moana Surfrider, which was lovely.

Aloha,
My vote is for the Moana! I Loooove their Sunday brunch (what a feast). The service is excellent.

I say go with the Moana because brunch was given an update. W was making revisions last I walked through, could be wrong but think they were moving it off the veranda. Sooooooooooo, I suspect they will be working hard to capture old following and maintain new...

Both are fantastic, the only consideration would be the cost. The Royal Hawaiin is twice the price as The Moana Surfrider.

They are next door to each other, so it is easy to walk in and peruse both and make your decision.

Forgot to add that the Royal has a greater variety of seafood, but in reality you can only eat so much, and both are truly great!

If the Moana has moved theirs off the verandah that would be unfortunate IMO.

Mark99 when the w bought took over the moana roommates went up I would think brunch did too.

Dukey that could have been temporary but that is what I was told when I walked into the hotel recently. There is a back porch area though that has a great view too, could easily be in this area.

I just came back this past January. I think it was $23 at Moana and 40 something at Royal. I didn't know about them taking it over...it always was starwood which is part of most W's, but I know the W in Honolulu is run a little differently. Quite frankly I wouldn't stay there and I love W's.

Not too much has changed mark but insiders told me (people working there) that the new management had the view that the clientele that was interested in the historical aspects of the hotel are far outnumbered by the clientele that wants new.

What I observed was some wood work over the front desk was painted white. Not sure why anyone would do that anywhere, it was quite dramatic before. No one wants to gaze at white instead of a rich old wood. Old hanging chandeliers (sp) were taken down. The quilt exhibit is gone. New furniture brought in that has cleaner lines and not as cozy as the old. I did not check to see if historical area upstairs is still there. This all sounds like a lot but it still has its old charm at the end of the day, just a tad stuffy.

I called the Westin Moana Surfrider and was told that there is currently no Sunday brunch. They are doing renovations and the plan is to be finished by late October. The brunch will resume at that time. So, I guess that solved this problem for me! It's the Royal Hawaiian for brunch!
