Waikiki: Kodak Hula Show

Renamed the Pleasant Hawaiian Hula Show in the late 90s, I just read on a quick Google search that this show has also closed now. Too bad.

Has it been replaced with anything similar?

Many thanks.

Not the same, alas, but there's an (every?) evening hula show near East side of the Sheraton Moana Surfrider (by the police station) at Kuhio Beach. If coming along the sidewalk, look for statue of Duke Kahanamoku (usually covered in leis).

Besides the free show that CaliNurse mentioned, the DFS Galleria has free shows. Not every day though. Check brochures for the days they will perform.

On Sundays, at Ala Moana Shopping Center, keiki (kids) perform. They are talented and fun to watch.

The free shows only last around 15 minutes or so.

Treat yourself to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Their 'Horizons' show is the best Polynesian show in all of Hawaii. Each village also has their own show/demonstration. Also a canoe pageant with performers on canoes.

There is a small stage in front of the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center waterfall (near the Cheesecake Factory) that has hula dancing in the evenings. Not sure which evenings. You could check with the RH shopping center.

Super! Such good choices! I love seeing the kids do the hula. Too cute.

dusty, we will definitely be going to the PCC - have enjoyed it in years past. Great show, to be sure!

Thanks all.

Good news -- recent Honolulu news reports that a new production company will begin giving free hula shows at the Waikiki Shell again. No specific date given for the debut, but (hopefully) before Summer!

We went to the Kodak Hula Show in the 1980s and loved it. Is there any update as to replacing it yet?

At the site that used to be Kodak Hula Show, there is a production called South Pacific Cultural Center. It is right next to Waikiki Shell.

There are demonstrations like lei making & hula lessons during the day (free) & a small swap meet of about 15 vendors.

The vendors do not appear to me to be any better than those at International Market Place or Duke's Lane.

They have a dinner show at night. Don't know how good it is. Around $40-$50 I think.

We also have a free hula show at the Star of Honolulu every day at about 4 or 430. It's not the same, but if you are in the area....
