There is a street somewhere here in the Austin area called Nameless Road. I guess they couldn't think of anything to name it.

That's how Nome, Alaska got its name. A cartographer wrote "Name?" for a village on a draft map and when it went to press it came out Nome.

Colorado Springs has a road named Ampersand - that's the name for the "&" sign. We also have several roads named Red Onion (Way, Drive, Court etc.)

Security, Colorado has a "Lois Lane"

Many people wonder about Colorado Spring's "Purgatory Drive" and don't realize that it is in a section that uses Colorado Ski slope names for road names.

I've always wondered how they (I guess city officials/developers) come up with names for streets. I haven't personally come across interesting/strange names; mostly elm (and other tree) streets and more recently names with "shire" attached.

I heard part of an npr program a couple of weeks ago about a Canadian map company that produces assorted fun maps showing towns/provinces with names that are out of the ordinary or follow a theme. Some were named after body parts.

Here in Baton Rouge, I always smile when I pass the street sign, "Plum Broque".

Happy Mardi Gras! We're heading down to New Orleans this afternoon. Can't wait! This year..Bacchus followed by Endymion. Wow!

"Oh my God Road" - a very aptly named stretch of barely improved road along the ridge lines between Idaho Springs and Central City, CO.

Lake Jackson, Texas, has streets called This Way and That Way, and I believe they intersect in the downtown area.

I stopped at the intersection of Clark & Kent streets this past week.

These streets are in a very, very old section of the city and I suspect they were named before Superman!

Speaking of Clark and Kent, Lois Lane is a cute little area in Bonita Springs, Florida.

My brother married a girl who lived on Chicken Bristle Road in Ohio, which I thought was the ugliest name for a road ever, and I never did figure out how to make a chicken bristle.
