W. Maui Condo Rental from owner

Our family of 3 is planning a trip to Maui in June and would like to rent a 1 or 2 bdr. condo from an owner. We would like to stay in the Kaanapali, Kahana, or Kapalua area - I've been looking at classified ads in "Hawaii" magazine and the San Francisco Examiner classifieds. If anyone has rented from an owner in these areas please email with info. I would also appreciate any thoughts on staying in these areas. Thanks

I own a condo in Cape May, NJ that I rent out through http://www.vrbo.com. They have plenty of listings in Hawaii as well. Other sites to look at are: http://www.vrr.com http://www.vacation-properties.com. Some of these sites also have "want ad" sections where you can also post a message. Good luck.

It is too risky to rent from an owner in a place that you know nothing about. You could get stuck in a dump, without air conditioning, a mile from the beach. Arrange your condo through your local home travel agent. Or better yet, reserve it from an agent on Maui who knows the area thoroughly, such as Maui Vacation Consultants (Kay Ryan) at [email protected]. Tell her Jon sent you and she will take special care of your reservations.
LOTS more info about Maui restaurants, sights, activities, hotels, etc, at this web site:
http://www.mauihawaii.org
(notice it ends in org, not com)

Contrary to the previous message. Renting from an owner is a great way to save money on a Hawaii Condo. We rented one several times before purchasing a unit at the Valley Isle Resort. The units are fabulous, complete with oceanfront views. Nothing quite Like it. Contact us for more info or visit us at: http://members.aol.com/maui4mee/maui

The last(and only) time I rented directly from an owner, I found that someone was already staying at the property. He said he was a friend of the owner.. and that the place was big enough to share. Fortunately, he took it well when I said he must leave.

I have rented condos several times in Kauai from an agent I found to be very honest and accurate in describing the properties available. We have rented an ocean front condo in Princeville that was fabulous. Especially well maintained and equipped. Some other places we stayed in felt like rental properties...furnished cheaply. This was a privately owned property that was rented by and agent. If you are interested,,,Janet Goldber of Bali Hai Treasures has a web site at
