"W" Hotel San Francisco...any first hand opinions?
I'm attending a meeting in SF at the Moscone Center (across from the "W"). Any opinions about the "W"? From what I read, rooms sound small and rather sterile. True? If so, is it a poor choice (no budget limitations since it's a corporate stay). Thanks!

Stayed there about a year ago for a corporate event. The rooms are small and a little cramped, but the hotel itself is very nice. It is pretty 'chic' -- all the staff are dressed in black, in the lobby in the early evening you can hear dance/house music coming from the bar. Pretty happening spot and if I remember correctly there are a few places to eat w/in walking distance.

Imagine the Pottery Barn catalog. Now imagine that it vomits and spews its contents in a small room, a small lobby, and an expensive lobby bar. Now imagine the lobby background music is that "trendy" music that they sell cds of at Pier One Imports. And imagine the worse logo/branding understatement of the century, and you've got the W.
But it's great for business travellers cheating on their spouses.

A group of us went for a conference. I stayed at the Westcoastgold, others stayed at the Westin and another 2 stayed at the W. We thought the W was a little ridiculous. The lobby was more like a beatnik coffee house with candles, black leather furniture, and jazz in the background. The rooms were very boring, obviously going for the chic minimalist look. All done in black and white and modern. I was happy with the Westcoast Gold but our vote went to those staying at the Westin for the nicest rooms.
