nelsonian, I plugged your dates in at hotels.com and saw not only the Hyatt you were talking about but also a short list of DC Kimpton hotels who are running their great annual summer sale on off season dates. The rates are fantastic right now and only slightly more than the Hyatt. I apologize but I am not recalling what your targeted budget is.

I think the Carlyle Dupont Circle would be an excellent choice for you all. It's a lovely boutique hotel in a former Art Deco apartment building. Bigger rooms, some with kitchenettes, great neighborhood, and walkable to Dupont Circle metro. Kimpton has some amazing customer service.

If you're interested, I'd book directly through Kimpton. Rates are the same, both pre paid and flexible.

You've mentioned the breakfast thing a couple of times. I suspect you know that the free BF tends to be a lighter one: cereal, bread, yogurt, and fruit. I'm not dissing a free breakfast, especially for a larger group, but I probably wouldn't pick a hotel based on that. Kimptons all have mini fridges in their rooms and this one has kitchenettes. You could stock for breakfast from the local grocery.

Disclaimer: I am an unabashed Kimpton hotel fan.

Thanks Obxgirl, I will check it out. Our breakfasts tend to be cereal and toast mostly.

I think the Carlyle Dupont Circle is outside our budget, but their is a Kinmpton Rouge in the same area I think which is cheaper. Although the cheapest room only has one king bed, and not two queen beds.

nelsonian, I see Queen/Queen rooms available for your dates at the Rouge that look pretty inexpensive. Also, did you check the senior rates? (50 or older...hope I'm not unfairly aging you!!) They look slightly lower.

The Rouge has very large rooms, small bathrooms, great beds, a great staff and is in a very nice neighborhood. Maybe 10 minute walk to Dupont metro. Good grocery store around the corner. A lot of nearby restaurants.

It's a nicer hotel than the BW. But the BW has free breakfast and is a little cheaper?

I have a history with the Rouge. My DH & I spent the better part of 8 months there with our golden retriever. I think I've been in almost every room they have.
