Any suggestions regarding memorable ones to visit? I like chardonnay and my partner likes pinot noir. Maybe that will change after the visit!

For both Pinot and Chardonnay I recommend Niner, but keep in mind that those varietals are grown in the San Luis Obispo area and are not typical Paso wines. Paso is more known for Syrahs, Mourvedes, Grenache, Cabs, etc. Also, when you go wine tasting, you will be tasting from the current tasting menu, which may or may not include those two varietals. Another good winery for those two is Calcareous. Both wineries also offer food.

Other memorable wineries not taking into consideration Pinots and Chardonnays would be Halter Ranch, Daou (very pricey but great wines, food and views), Sculpterra (for the grounds, not the wine so much), Epoch, Shale Oak, Pear Valley, and Villa San Juliette. I live in the area and could name dozens more but the ones I've listed have good views, etc.

Downtown Paso has numerous restaurants and I would do a Google search of the menus to see what appeals to you. I love Il Cortile, BL Brasserie, Six Test Kitchen (Michelin Star), Somms Kitchen, In Bloom, Stokehouse, and Paso Terra. For more casual, Streetside and Via Carravagio are both very good.

I personally like Parrish … the winery is gorgeous with great views, some great and interesting varieties of wine, fabulous small plates to accompany. Love their sauv blanc and rose in summer. In fact just booked a reservation in a few weeks as we got tickets to the Neil Young concert at the amphitheater!

Yes, Parrish is lovely as is the family that runs it. My husband will be at that concert. Enjoy!

I like Nenow and Dilecta. Tablas Creek and Turley are classic.

Pinot Noir - Jack Creek is nice.
Other wineries Justin and Booker are nice. A nice reasonable place to stay is Allegretto Vineyard Resort. Good luck!

We visited last fall. Stayed at The Piccolo which was fabulous in all respects. We were in town midweek and found that many wineries were closed up or were booked up for tastings. We wanted to try a winery in town the evening we arrived and stumbled upon Serial. We loved the wines and sent several home. The host at our hotel booked us into Cass for lunch and a tasting. Both are very good and we brought some of those wines home too. Daou was, of course, booked up but if you tell them you want to try wines to buy, they’ll serve you at the bar and pour for you there. They were very nice and gave us some great recommendations.
We loved Il Cortile and had a very good casual dinner at The Hatch. Enjoy your trip!

Wow, this is an old post from 21 years ago so a lot has changed! Just in case you found this page and wanted more up to date info there's a really good NEW guide that I like a lot called pasoWineryGuide dot com. All of the best wineries are there as well as an up to date list of two for one offers. Cheers to anyone out there reading this!
