Visiting NYC this summer?

If you are going to visit NYC during months of June, July and August indicate the dates of your visit and I will let you know what events are being offered (many are free) in the financial district on the dates of your visit. Some of the major sightseeing sites in the area include Battery Park (where you get ferry to Statue of Liberty), World Trade Center, World Financial Center and South Street Seaport. For example, EmmyLou Harris is giving a free concert in Battery Park on July 4 in Battery Park at 3:30pm.

New York is bustling with activity in the summer, not just in lower Manhattan. Just one example: Lincoln Center has a series of special programs in July, as well as the annual Mostly Mozart concert series in August (perhaps starting in late July).

Looks like most of the events listed are free, or almost free. Just about all trains from Times Square go to WTC. Take the 1, 9, N or R to Cortland St. or A,C, E to World Trade Center - Chambers St. Manhattan is only 7 miles long (or something like that), so you can check out more of the city in a short time. Pick up the Village Voice (free weekly in boxes on the street) for more ideas when you arrive.

Hey rqf-

anything for june 4th thru the 7th that isn't necessarily budget? I'm going to NY for the first time and want to see as much as possible. I don't have broadway tickets yet, but I'd like to see a show. Also, do you happen to know what kind of television shows they tape in NYC that you can attend a recording of?
Thanks!

You can check this type of info for yourself at www.downtownny.com
(The Alliance for Downtown NY) The website initially says "new website coming" but just wait or click on the big
"DOWNTOWN" and you'll get a screen that lets you pull up a calendar of events.

Great free concerts are available all over NY in the summer..

ALSO:
If you're looking for a comprehensive listing of street fairs and parades all over the city, my favorite 'secret' source is the listing on the city's official website, NYC.GOV.
Skip the links to tourist info, go straight to the search button (near the top right hand of the screen, but not on the very top line) and use the magic words "major events".
You see, in order to have a street closed for any event, (block party, school carnival, parade, street fair, etc.), you must get a permit, and since that is publicly available information, why not go straight to the source?
