Virginia Beach or other plans?
My wife and I were to drive from Williamsburg and stay a couple of nights at Virginia Beach on October 10th. Should we stay with these plans after Hurr. Isabelle or change plans and stay around Williamsburg and travel in that area until we fly out of Norfolk back to Houston.
thank you Dennis

I actually live about 30 minutes from the Virginia Beach oceanfront and went down there last Friday after Isabel. Everything looked really good considering. I think by now the power has been restored down in that area. I would definitely keep your plans to stay at the beach. It's a wonderful time of the year with less crowds and mild weather. Enjoy! We went to Williamsburg a couple of years ago with the idea of going over to Virginia Beach for a couple of days. We did not care for it. We got to VB, turned around and went back to Williamsburg for the rest of our stay. It just wasn't us.

I go to Williamsburg area (from upstate NY) several times a year for a long weekend. I always spend a night in V.B. only for one purpose: I stay in a beachfront hotel (off-season for about $40), leave the balcony door open all night so I can hear the surf, and get a GREAT night's sleep. Other than the nearby ocean, I don't think V.B. offers much either, and would much rather spend my time at Wbg, NewportNews, Richmond or Norfolk.

Unfortunately must say I agree with others. Went there after Williamsburg (not to stay overnight, thank goodness) and was less than impressed. I love the ocean, but it was too touristy. However, the thought of staying on the beach with the windows open falling asleep to the sound of the surf sounds inviting. You might as well be anywhere once it's dark with those sounds.
Have a good trip whatever you do.

If you would really like to beach it why don't you look at the Sanderling on the Outer Banks. It will be a farther trip but beautiful at that time of year. I've heard that that part wasn't damaged very much.
