Virginia Beach lodging

Planning a trip late May or early June to Virginia Beach. It has been several years since we have been there and are looking for recommendations on lodging, oceanfront, mid-range price, on the the boardwalk. Also, for locals, what time of year do the jellyfish move in. Thanks for your help!

The nicest hotels are the new Hilton, and the two Marriott Courtyards. All three are oceanfront, new or fairly new and clean. You need to check the pricing. Also, there are some weekends that will be busier than others because of events. June 9th-10th is a big sand soccer weekend. I would avoid the strip unless you are avid soccer fans. Our kids will be playing in the tournament!
I am not local enough to know about Jelly fish so hopefully someone else can tell you that.

Jellyfish track to warm waters which means the Gulf Stream around here. The water in the VB area starts to warm up around late May/June. The higher concentrations are in August & Sept.

I'm from VB and honestly haven't had a problem with jellyfish in a long time. The worst areas are in the bay, not the ocean. As mentioned earlier, late July-August when water is warmest is when they are the worst.

Places to stay...Hilton the nicest by far, plus it's at the north end of the "strip" (about a 40 block range) away from the worst crowds. On the other end, the Ramada (at 7th street I believe) is another good one. They have a hotel bar/restaraunt called Mahi Mah's which is one of my fav places to go. Right on the boardwalk, live music every night, long bar, great food and a lively crowd. The Hilton has a similar thing but it's pretty brand new and I've since moved so I can't speak from experience on that yet. Personally, my favorite would be to rent a house on the North End if you can afford it. Nothing but beach houses, so relaxing.... happy to offer any other tips, i miss home

Hi Lisa, The Hilton is very nice and still very new. We just stayed at the Marriott at 37th and it is nice with an indoor, outdoor pool and oceanfront. It was clean and nice. If you want to rent a house away from the strip area, I hear Sandbridge is the place. Sandbridge is just south of VB and is probably a 10 minute drive to the action on the strip. I have had many friends who have rented there and liked it. I can not say from personal experience however. I think Sandbridge realty is the place to rent from.
That is if you want the big house with everyone in it. If you want hotels, the best ones are the Hilton, Marriott at 37th and Marriott at 33rd. There are many older and rather dumpy hotels/motels. So be careful outside of the three I gave you. Good luck. It may be hard to rent a house this late in the season.
