This is not one of the choices you mentioned, but not far from Venice. I'd recommend going to Salo, Italy on the Italian Riviera, about an hour or less from Venice. It is one of the most romantic spots you could imagine. An Italian village on the water that gives you hourly water rides to numerous other incredibly romantic and interesting towns on the lake, as well as day tours to Venice. Very charming, picturesque and great food. I'd suggest going by train to Venice to spend time and see it since it is really wonderful, possibly stay overnight, but it is very expensive and can be more hectic than romantic. Either way you can't go wrong with Italy! Best wishes

Lyn, I think you're confused about your names.
The Italian Riviera is all the way over on the other side of the country from Venice, much farther away than an hour's drive.
It is the part of Italy over by Monaco, on the north end of the Ligurian Sea.
If you're referring to Lake Garda, that's not the Italian Riviera.
And Garda, while nice, is not most people's favorite Lakes Region lake (though that doesn't make it less desirable, to be sure). Lakes Como, Lugano and Orta draw quite a bit more praise for their charm and romantic character.

I had to make this same decision (Italy vs. Hawaii) for our honeymoon in August 2002. Despite the incredible ambience of Venice, I would have to say Hawaii is better for honeymooning. The main reason is that if the honeymoon occurs immediately after the wedding, relaxing and recovery are easier to do on Hawaii. No passport needed - just rent a car and you're set.
Kauai is the most romantic spot with lush greenery and natural scenery. Stay at the Hyatt on Poipu Beach if you can afford it! Guaranteed to be a phenomenal honeymoon if you go there. Would definitely take a helicopter tour, see the Canyon, North Shore (Hanalei) area, and if you're the adventurous type - take the day-hike option on the Na Pali Coast trail. The journey to Hankapiai Beach and Falls was well worth the effort!
