Vegas with 2 and 6 year old

Hi,

We're comp'ed at the Wynn and Bally's this month and it's been a few years since I took the kids there. I remember the M&M store, sharks, tigers, lions... What else is there for them? I've never been to the northern tip of the strip with the mall etc. What's up there for young ones? Any other ideas? Thanks!

Try looking at www.lasvegaskids.net or www.kidsinvegas.com for tips. Check amazon.com - there are some books about Vegas w/ kids; your library might even have them.

Here's another good link - this site has several vegas w/ kids articles but here's a place to start:

Well first of all, I think your memory is shot...I don't think you took a 2 year old to Vegas "a few years" ago!

If the 6 year old is into dinosaurs, you could go to the Natural History Museum. The Lied Children's Museum (just beyond downtown Vegas) is terrific if you don't have something like it in your hometown. I guess I am assuming you'll have a car, and if so you could also travel out to Lake Mead for a boat ride or take a ride around Red Rock canyon hoping to spot some wildlife.
The Flamingo pool area is always a hit with a 2 year old...all those little penguins walking around, and the fish ponds.

I have two children of similar ages that travel everywhere w/us. Las Vegas is not one of those places. You may want to consider a baby-sitter, although I travel to Vvegas at least once or twice a year, it is not someplace that I would take my children.

Right...we took the oldest the week of 9/11...I wouldn't leave the mainland on a plane for three months...then we went again on the way home....Most of that time is blocked out. She was sick that trip come to think of it...

I agree that Vegas is not a family destination, although I still see kids every time we go. I understand that sometimes it's not a choice - if you don't take them with you, you don't get to go! If they can read, I'd have a hard time trying to explain the huge signs driving up and down the strip on the sides of trucks (and smaller signs on top of cabs) advertising "totally nude dancing and singing escort services" with appropriately dressed or undressed young ladies. As to the Flamingo, their wild life area is still beautiful and a lot of fun, but the penguins are gone. I forgot to ask why the last time we were there, but they were moved to a zoo.

I'm sure daddy wants to keep them at ESPN and I'll wisk them to the animal viewing places. Can non-guests check out Circus Circus?
