Vegas hotel rates-what would you do?

We are a couple in our late 30's heading to Vegas in April 2005. We'd like a little more than a basic room..something a little luxury. I got a rate of about $102 per night for a midweek stay at TI which seems good compared to higher rates at lesser hotels I'm getting. I would love someplace like the Bellagio but that comes up at $259 a night...ouch. The others I'm getting are NYNY ($119),Aladdin ($129)and MGM ($149) as all come up in my range but I don't think any are much better than TI. All the other hotels I would consider (Paris, Venetian, Mirage, Ceasars are out of that range unfortunately).

Correct me if I'm wrong please! I'm thinking of booking the TI now as it s cancellable and sign up for all the other hotels email promos and if something better comes along take it. I can get the no frills, but clean Flamingo for $65 which is also tempting because we can use the savings to see some other shows. Any advice would be appreciated. Decisions, Decisions..Thanks!

Well, if the TI reservation is 100% cancellable, go ahead and make a reservation as a fall-back. Then, watch the internet specials. Travelzoo.com is great about posting fabulous Vegas hotel deals.

We've been to Vegas twice in the last five years, and we stayed at the Venetian both times, and did not pay over $125 a night midweek. Fridays and Saturdays were more expensive, but still under $250. But you have to watch for the specials, and making reservations for specials usually means that you can't cancel them for free.

Also consider staying a nicer property midweek (when prices are far cheaper) and then switching hotels for the weekend. And realize that it may take a couple more months for the fabulous deals to be posted for April - they usually aren't made available all that far in advance.

Hold out for a wonderful hotel - in my opinion, the Venetian is head and shoulders above most others in Vegas, except maybe Bellagio (but the rooms are bigger). The Venetian is almost like the Four Seasons anywhere else. Good luck.

Sure, reserve TI, sign up with them all, and hope for the best! This is what I've done for February.

Flamingo is not bad, but it depends on you, what's your choice: basic room savings or a better hotel. I don't know if TI is so much better, never stayed there. Search this website, and TravelAdvisor and then make your decision.

Call the hotel you are interested in, you can sometimes get a better deal just by wrangling with them over the phone. We did this when we stayed at the Luxor - the web price was $89 a night for a standard room. We wound up with a deluxe room(very nice) for $69 just by calling!.

Personally I think I would go the extra couple of bucks and go to NYNY. I have always found that Monte Carlo is a good deal and I think that is a great place to stay. Certainly equal to the TI and having stayed at both, IMHO better.

Unfortunately luxury costs more.

I stayed at Treasure Island about 3 years ago and had a room with a view of the strip just as it curves and also of the volcano eruption. It was a different show then, loud and much longer and the you could feel the heat come off of it from stories above, as far away as I was. TI is ok but if price is comparable, I would pick Monte Carlo or NYNY over the TI, for sure. Second the opinion that Monte Carlo is very underrated. We have friends who only stay there and have seen the room. Good location also.

I would never pick NYNY over TI. TI is very nice, rooms are not huge but nicely decorated. Bathrooms are good sized and attractive (in fact the entire hotel decor is attractive). It's connected to Mirage by a short tram (free) so you can go back and forth easily. The Mirage rooms are larger but bathrooms smaller, very nice hotel tho and if you can get a good rate I'd recommend it. TI is very well located and just across the street from the new Wynn's which opens in April. Also across from huge Fashion Show Mall. All hotels will charge one night to your credit card when you book, but continue to check the rates, they frequently go down and you can call and get the lower rate. I do this all the time. Incidentally the Flamingo has probably the best location on the strip, and the remodeled rooms are nice.

I'd book TI now tho and keep checking rates.

Definitely double check closer to April, but at that time is a busy season for them, so the choices will be limited. Would pass on NY NY though. It's ok to pass through but not stay, very loud and full of kids.
Since your young, have you tried The Palms? Nice place and geared towards younger crowd, it's not on the strip but not far, basically down the street. I just looked and you can get a room in mid-April for $99 during the week.

Just in case anyone is interested, I received an email special for Venetian with a free upgrade to the new Towers, Bella Suites for $129 per nite. This is only till the end of the year but what a great deal! Here is the link:

Flamingo and more shows, no question! The rooms are recently re-done and the location can't be beat for that price. You won't spend much time in the room and the "luxury" of the room will fade from memory, but the shows will make for a real Vegas experience.

My 2 cents worth. I go to Vegas once a year to make my fortune.(One day it might just happen) I always stay at the Flamingo; best location and rooms have just been updated.
Good luck!

I agree the other poster make your reservation but make sure you can cancel. Go onto each if the hotels website and sign up for e-mails and they will send you great deals. I stay at the Venetian all the time and get some great rates through their emails. Once as low as $119.00. Of course I do not go on the weekend but stay during the week when it is cheaper.

Becareful fo the NYNY it has gotten to be a hangout for gang members. Also check with steying at Bally's and then trying before you leve to get a upgrade to the Paris. A friend of mind did something like this. Not sure how it worked but it did for her.
Good luck!

We go to Vegas an average of 2 times per year. I would definitely pick TI over the others listed. AAA 4 star rating, lovely rooms, great location. If you are a first time visitor to Vegas, enjoy the luxury TI has to offer. You won't be sorry.

Just came back from Vegas. Stayed at the MonteCarlo for the first time. It's pleasant, clean, functional, and all that, but TI is MUCH nicer. Better rooms, better furnishings, nicer casino...

Of the prices and hotels you mention, I would book Aladdin. Great location, and much nicer, more luxurious rooms and baths that most of what you mention. We stayed there last time because we got a deal, but I thought it was exceptionally nice for the price.

By the way, we've also stayed at Flamingo, Bellagio, Treasure Island, Mirage, and Bally's. The Aladdin room was far better than any of the others, with the possible exception of the Mirage (where we must have gotten upgraded) and yes, I'm including the standard Bellagio room in this comparison.

I'll cast my vote for Paris - especially if you're a AAA member, they have some good discounts. We stayed there in July and loved it. Otherwise, go for TI - it's a nice hotel with a great location.

Hello Travelsuper!

If it's not too late... try Priceline! I just booked a room (Sun-Thurs) at the Venetian for $99 a night!!!

Hint: the Venetian is the only 5* participating on Priceline! So during your rebid stage, you can add ANY other area/increase your bid by $5, and you can rebid for "free"!

We booked online at Mandalay Bay when we visited Las Vegas, and checked back frequently only to find they kept dropping the rates closer to our date. Each time all it took was a phone call and we were able to get a great rate of $89/night by the time we actually arrived. Monte Carlo was a terrific deal when I booked last year, ended up paying $49/night!! That location was actually better than Mandalay because it was more centralized.
Have a great time!

Thanks, My wife and I booked TI for $109 as our fail safe (cancellable). We are watching the rates and have signed up for all the hotel email deals. Would love Paris or the Venetian. Hopefully there will be some deals for April. I wonder if they send certain deals out by zip code...for instance, Californians get different deals because of their proximity to Vegas?

Well, keep an eye out for April rates for me and post here what you find!!!

We've stayed at Luxor and NYNY. Luxor was fun--it had just opened and was unique. NYNY had very uncomfortable beds. We could hear the coaster all day too (only when we were in our room, of course, which wasn't too often). We are staying at the Venetian in March for about $240 for two nights.

If you do end up saving the $$ and going with the Flamingo, try to see Mystere. I loved it. We are going to see Zumanity this year. I hope it's good too!
