Vegas Hotel Question?

Aladdin is trying to compete in the 'middle of the road' category with places like Monte Carlo and Luxor, etc. The rooms are new, obviously, which means very clean with no wear and tear. Decor/furniture is OK, nothing expensive or fancy. The casino is very small. The shopping center they built, "Desert Passage", is huge with lots of very upscale stores. Unfortunately they've done a horrible job marketing it and it was nearly deserted when we were there.
If you get a good rate at Aladdin you probably won't be disappointed if you go in with proper expectations. Unfortunately for the management, I think if you project what will happen with Aladdin 5-7 years down the road you'll see it's going to have a tough time competing and surviving. Especially with such a crummy casino, which is where most of the revenues should be coming from (the shopping center is the other and it's looking a little bleak right now).

My brother and wife got a tremendous package deal (very cheap) to Vegas early December, 2000 and were booked into the Aladdin. They found it very nice and said they would stay there again. However, they're not big gamblers or shoppers; spent more time walking the strip checking everything out.

Stayed at the Aladdin in Feb. Wasn't impressed. Prefer the Paris. Aladdin was horribly laid out, staff was untrained & oblivious to what was going on around them. The walls in the rooms are paper thin. If anyone in the surrounding rooms flushed their toilet or showered, it sounded like Niagra Falls in our room. There is no place to just sit & have a quick cup of coffee, the cafe is mediocre & the service is very, very slow. The mall is a joke. The people working in it call it the 'desserted passage' instead of the 'desert passage'. From what I was told, the shop owners are suing the Aladdin for the lack of marketing. The Aladdin is soon going to be bought out by another hotel chain. They are already financially defunct. If you can change your reservations, I would do so now.

I agree with the others. We stayed at Aladdin in February. Got a very good rate of $69 per night and we were upgraded to a very spacious room. For that price, it was great. However, I don't think I would stay there again. I much prefer Paris or Mandalay Bay (if you want to spend a little more). The layout of Aladdin just didn't hit me. My husband and I both felt the same way. The buffet was fine, but nothing special. Food at Paris is wonderful. We went to Paris for breakfast after our first breakfast at Aladdin - Aladdin could not compete with the food at Paris. Anyway, if you can get a cheap room, it's fine. Desert Passage is great. For an equal amount of money, I would try to find something else.

Jan, the "nays" have spoken. If you're just going to lay your head in the hotel, it is nice. And my friends say they found a good price for a good location. But as a destination, you'll spend your time on the Strip and looking at other hotels, casinos, etc.
And the major complaint STILL seems to be an unfriendly work staff. (Huh... imagine that... in a tourist industry where minimum-wage workers have to cow-tow to spoiled travellers dropping dollars like a balding man sheds hair? Shock, I tell you!)
Check out www.lvol.com, and look at the reviews for Aladdin. Pretty much consistant in what's said here.

Ditto the "desserted passage" comment. They place never looks like anyone is actually shopping.
We stayed there last year and liked the room and bathroom. We thought it was comfortable agree that the layout of the hotel in general is a bit odd.
We had a reservation there next month but when we went visiting again in March, we cancelled it. We ate at one of the restaurants (Josef's) and for the money, you can do 10 times better at the Paris. We've changed our hotel reservation to the Paris as we love Mon Ami Gabi!
If you can get Aladdin at $60-$70, go for it because the location is good. Otherwise, the Mandalay Bay or Monte Carlo are much better. (And probably Paris but I haven't stayed there yet)
