But, given the result that Ima got, am willing to consider that what other players do doesn't change my odds of a win or push. My odds do depend on the dealer's up card. At least my play depends on that card.

It could be sort of like a Monty Hall problem. Or a game of Deal or No Deal where your chance of selecting the case with the million dollar prize is 1 in 26 and stays that way no matter how many cases you reveal don't have that prize.

Honestly, I have no idea how it works but everything I've ever read seems to support the conclusion that what other players do don't change your own odds. In any event, blackjack used to be my main casino game but over the years, I've drifted away from it and now only rarely play. I moved to video poker (now that's a game many people don't know how to play at all but at least we are sure it doesn't affect anyone but them!). Just like your complaints about the changes to blackjack payouts, video poker had more generous payouts back when I started playing in the early 90s.
