Paris is nice but the rooms are small and the pool area is sub-par (pretty much a concrete slab with an inset pool). On the plus side, the Paris casino and restaurants are great and the location can't be beat.

I would go with the Mirage. It also has a nice casino area and restaurants and the pool is magnificant. You'll have a great time no matter where you stay, but a wonderful hotel can make a good trip even better.

Oh, make sure you walk north of Treasure Island to some of the 'old' hotels (Frontier, etc.). That's where you'll find the 'real' Vegas in my opinion and they're tearing down those hotels quickly. I wouldn't want to stay at one but they're fun to wander through. Slot machines at the new hotels don't cash back real money anymore--you have to go to the old Vegas haunts on the north strip for that. Have fun!

HI--we have stayed at Luxor, Paris, Alladin and Venetian. There is no doubt in my mind that for the prices you are quoting that the Venetian is the best bet. It is a virtual 2 room suite--a raised bedroom w/a railing overlooking a livng room that has a table for four as well. In LV one can really need a break from all the noise and activity. Having a room where you don't have to sit on the bed but rather have a real couch, chairs and table makes you feel much more relaxed--JMO.

I agree with socialworker. I have stayed at a lot of the hotels (for work--really!!) and I would pick The Venetian. I don't think the location makes that much difference and the rooms are some of the best on the strip for the price. For center of the strip Paris or Flamingo would be my next choices.

A little addendum to my previous post...I forgot that we have also stayed at Caesar's once--back in '98 and we had a terrible room that had worn carpeting and and bedspread and curtains that had definitely seen better days!! I am sure all those rooms have been redone by now, but we also had the worst service there of all the above places I named. I *love* Paris but recommend Venetian for the reasons I previously stated. As I recall, you wanted a good pool and that is the one thing that is not great at Paris. The Venetian does have a wonderful pool and Caeasar's also has a great one.

Hi.

Based on this and your previous thread, I'm going to suggest the Venetian. I think the value for your plans works best there.
The rate for Paris is great, but the pool is lacking and the rooms aren't great either. The common areas are beautiful, but you don't have to stay there to experience that.
I would suggest the Mirage, but I'd only do that if I got a better rate through the casino. The Venetian and Mirage are across the street from each other, so the locations are very comparable.
The Flamingo does have a nice pool and location. You get what you pay for and that price is fairly accurate of what to expect. The hotel itself is aging.
I like the shows, shops and food at the Luxor, but I think you will be much happier staying somewhere else. Again, you can experience all the good parts without having to stay there.
I've only stayed at a Celebrity Suite at the MGM, so I'm not sure what their standard rooms are like. I wouldn't pay more for a standard room there than a standard room at the Venetian.

I hope that helps.

I would book your room at the hotel of your choice.....Vegas gets pretty hot in June and you will see the prices go down as June approaches. The Specials usually come out 6 weeks before. Last July we paid $129 pn at Bellagio---that was a Dlx room, high floor fountain view. So reserve the room/hotel you really want. you do not have to pay for it now, check the hotel websites and snag a deal. You have 72 hours before arrival to cancel so don't worry about being charged.

As far as location, you cannot beat mid strip...the 2 nicest hotels mid strip are Caesars and Bellagio. Bellagio is beautiful and refined- beautiful pools, Caesars is HUGE and fun - great shopping! If you stay at Bellagio, it is a short 5 minute walk to Caesars, they are connected by a walkway. You can also walk across the bridge and go to Bally's, Paris, Flamingo to visit...also a 5 min walk.

I have visited all the casinos and have stayed at the Bellagio. This is just IMHO, but I did not like mandalay bay or Luxor..too far away and isolated. Luxor is very dark and has a closed feeling - Mandalay Bay just has nothing going on...it's just OK. NYNY is definately out for me..it's like a NY subway...crowded, noisy and dirty. The Flamingo is another place to visit but SO glad I did not stay there. The Venetian is nice but not location is not desirable...it is a fun place to visit for an afternoon. Just my opinion from 2 very recent visits there...please don't flame me.

In Vegas, Like any other destination, you get what you pay for. Some people do not mind lesser accomodations to save money. Some poeople do not mind paying a little more to have nicer accommodations/location. The choice is a personal one.

Before my first trip I bought The Fodors guide to Vegas and The unofficial guide to Vegas. Both were very helpful with unbiased views of everything from rooms, restaurants, shows etc...

Hi Annabel.

I would hope that flaming is not an issue. Everyone has their own opinion and perspective. I hope we all respect that.

Take Care,
Mark

Thanks again, everyone! I think I will do what people are suggesting -- book one hotel through the website, and then wait to see if other prices come down. I will let you know what I ultimately come up with once the date gets closer. They all seem great -- I promise a trip report when I return at the end of June!

Beachgirl,

I live in Las Vegas- As you consider hotels keep in mind that location and nice room are important- there is ALOT of walking- the strip is long and the concrete is hard.

Paris for location - and Flamingo for location and gggggreat pool!

Everything is expensive here- food, shows, etc, etc- and hotel rooms are not where you will spend your time. Better to visit the Bellagio along with the rest of the folks who stop in there- !!

beachgirl86,

Are the prices you're quoting per couple? Do they include air?

The reason I ask is that, if they are (per couple) and they don't include air, you may wish to check www.worryfreevacations.com.

I just punched in random June dates for three nights at the Mirage (my favorite--plus the pool can't be beat!) and it came to $580 per couple--including airfare (mind you, I don't know where you live so I punched in my home town of Denver). I didn't try it for four adults but it would not be double.

When I travel to Vegas, I have a hard time beating this web site's prices.

Al l Carte: They are per couple for the hotel room only...our flights are already booked...I will definitely check out that website just in case, though -- thanks!

The Venetian isn't worth even half that price. Rooms are showing wear and the shopping area is teaming with hotel staff trying to sell you a timeshare. The pool is absolutely boring as far as atmosphere.
I realize Mandalay Bay is down the strip, but it's the best consistent hotel overall. Great pool area-(you can rent your own private cabana with a waiter) and the absolute BEST restaurants all in one place.
I've stayed just about everywhere, but now only stay at Mandalay. I take a cab to go wherever I want and there are shuttle services between many hotels.

Have a great time whever you end up!

I'm glad to see NO ONE has recommended the MGM...It's ok but there is so much better in Vegas!
I agree with the Venetian and the reason is this: to do the gondola ride, you have to come early in the AM and put your name on the list, then, come back later to actually ride. We didn't want to spend the whole day there, so missed the gondola. Another reason, it is adjacent to the Mirage, which has a great club and casino area. Thirdly, it is near a ?civic center? and there was something going on there (while we were there) that was extremely attractive to DH (a big game show!). Therefore, we spent alot of time in the taxi going back and forth to MGM. If price were no problem, I'd vote Mirage!

The taxi's were actually part of the fun though! We enjoyed surveying the drivers...where'r ya from? The answer was mulitple different countries! One, an older man (actually from the states!), played "Stars Fell On Alabama" on the Saxaphone while at a stop light! We couldn't believe it! Such FUN!

I'm not sure that this is of any help, but whenever I read someone saying something like "Hotel X is the best" or "the rooms at Hotel Z are the most fantastic" I always wonder how many different hotels that poster has stayed it. When someone says that a particular hotel is THE BEST but has never stayed at any other, or maybe one or two others, it's hard to put much weight into that opinion. I wish when people commented they'd list all the hotels in the list they've stayed at and then actually make a comparison. Let's face it, none of these hotels are exactly dumps!

Just to clarify - the Mirage is not adjacent to the Venetian. They're across the street from one another. And from everything I've read Mirage isn't luxurious or special enough to warrant that high cost, but I've not stayed there so can't say for sure.

And the gondola rides at Venetian look really cheesy!
