Vegas dress code?
I am going to Vegas in Oct 2000 with my husband. Never been there before. I have read these forums and others until my eyes blurred, but I havent read any info really on how to dress. We are flying and I need to know how to pack.
It sounds as if its a neat, but casually dressed town? Mainly I am interested in knowing what type of dress is expected at shows, evening and afternoon, and also at some of the nicer restaurants in the evenings? Will I need a nice dress/heels for Manhattans, Emerils, Benihana? And for my hub, does he need a coat/tie or will neat Dockers and boat shoes work? We are not slobs by any means...I come from NC but I wont be packing my fringed levi cutoffs or overalls, I promise
Some advice as to the weather would also be welcome. I am a southern belle who has not been west past Oklahoma, so please help. Thanks in advance. Havent had a real vacation without kids in EIGHT yrs either

Dress to please yourself and your husband. If you want to "play dress-up" and have some fun go for it. Vegas only cares if you bring money. Have a good time. See the watershow in front of the Bellagio Hotel and the "Grand Canal" at the Venetian Hotel. I would spend the money to see the Cirque de Soleil "O" show at the Bellagio be for spending any money on new clothes. You need to get tickets early, before you go. Enjoy!!

Calico: if you pack 'fringed Levi cut-offs' and overalls you won't be alone. As above, dress in LV is VERY casual. People go there to relax. So wear what makes you happy. The days of wearing tuxes and evening dresses faded long ago, though if you want to get dressed up, you won't be out of place at night. Most people dress reasonably well for evening shows, but things continue to get more casual every year, it seems.

Thanks, I was hoping to hear that my fave khakis would work.
Thanks to all the great info on message boards, we have compiled THE LIST. I think we need about 3wks so far to fit it all in, lol. Shows we are doing for sure are: Mystere (hard choice between that and O, I am still sitting on the fence I think) Lance Burton, Forever Plaid and hopefully there will be a good headliner there. I am hoping for Louie Anderson, Dana Carvey or Penn/Teller. Doing Red Rock and Hoover too. Definitely wanna see the Bellagio and Venetian. Staying at MGM. Eating at Emerils for sure at least once. JUST WHO DOESNT LOVE THAT GUY??? Hub travels and loves Cheesecake Factory, says he has to take me. Any other suggestions are welcomed as we dont know how to gamble
Hoping to read up on gaming the weeks before we go.

We did Emerils and Mystere one Saturday night in Febuary. I wore Dockers and a dress shirt, and my wife wore a womens pantsuit (sorry, I don't know how to describe womens clothes that well). We felt comfortable at both events.
I made the minor mistake of booking the dinner at 5:30 pm (when Emeril's opens) and the 7:30 pm Mystere show. If you want to eat dinner first, book the later show. We had a great dinner and made the show on time (took a taxi), but it was pretty close.

Please dress up!!!! No one ever does anymore!!! I've been to Vegas three times and planning my forth for Labor day weekend. I'm sick to death of people not looking nice. During the day it's fine bum around, but please try to be glamorous for yourself and just to preserve the old days. Do have a great trip. Vegas is the best playground!!!!

The information that you have received is right on. I sort of agree with Julie though it is not necessary to plead with you. It is just that Las Vegas is one of the few places where you can either dress to the hilt ( Tux, formal gown ) or wear shorts and sneakers to the same event. I personally miss the old days of Las Vegas when people did dress up to step out at night.
The only judgement that anybody makes is that the color of you money is green. What you wear as you are spending it is your business.

I got dressed up for an evening in Vegas and felt completely out of place. Everyone else looked a lot more comfortable and I was sorry I'd gone to all that trouble. Also, it was early fall and it was incredibly hot. Of course everything indoors was air-conditioned, but outdoors was brutal, so dress accordingly (at least check the weather for October). Still had a great time. Enjoy!

I dressed up one night in Vegas and as I was riding down in the elevator to meet my hubby I was propositioned. Guy thought I was a hooker. ( No comments necessary here! LOL)
Anyhow...everyone here is missing the point! The most important thing , and I do mean important, to take to Vegas, is a comfortable pair of walking shoes.

Thank you all for the replies. Being as I must live out of a suitcase for a week, was just trying to pack what I need...wasnt making a statement that teeshirts and shorts should be acceptable dress for all situations. I think I got the point
I work in a bank and what yall describe we call business casual... I will go with that. Got tix for Mystere, BMG and Lance Burton! I am so ready to go!

What a great thread. I do so enjoy Las Vegas and apparently the respondees do as well. From a woman's point of view, the clothes you wear are your choice. I love to dress-up (must be that little girl in me), and LV is one place you can. I always do and feel so special inside. I also take the comfortable things... but I can wear those at home. Don't worry. What ever you do, it will be fine! One of the few places I've been where that statement really is true.

I was in Vegas a couple of weeks ago. The day we landed, we went to Emeril's for lunch. We were both in shorts and tshirts and at the table next to us was a bride, groom, best man and maid of honor all in full regalia.
So I think the answer is to dress as casually or as formally as you want. I am not a 'dress up' type of person, so I wore shorts and tops. I took one dress which I never wore. However, there are people there in evening wear *and sometimes during the day!*
My advice is to wear whatever you are comfortable in...and have a good time! The weather should be much nicer *more reasonable temperature* in October than it was the last week in June.
