Various last questions before trip to Hawaii
We're headed out soon for our trip to Hawaii (Oahu and Maui). Instead of doing several posts with the questions, I kept a running list of simple questions that I could compile into one post. Hopefully, we can find out the answers to them.
1. I’ve read that we should check surf conditions before heading out for snorkeling, swimming, etc. Is there an actual place (TV, radio, etc) to check? Or do they just mean looking at the water – rough, don’t swim; calm – snorkel. I also remember that if there is a lifeguard at the beach that they have postings up, too. Any media suggestions for finding out surf conditions on Oahu and Maui?
2. Where can we park for Lanikai Beach? A few years ago, I parked in a residential neighborhood (out of the way but apparently on a bike path that I didn't even see) and got a ticket. It was our best day at the beach - love Lanikai - but where is a better place to park? Can we park in residential as long as we're not on a bike path?
3. Is there a nice, relaxing place to have manicure/pedicure in Waikiki? Not looking for super-expensive, but something for my wife to enjoy one evening. She normally just goes to places in shopping malls, so it doesn't need to be extravagant, but maybe a place that's unique to Hawaii (setting, etc).
4. Are there flotation devices (vests, snorkeling belts) for adults available to rent at Hanauma Bay?
I think that's all there is. I have received a ton of information from this site - postings that I will print out before we head out. Thanks to all of you who take the time to help travelers!

The surf conditions are reported on TV and the radio every morning and evening on the news. You can also check http://surfnewsnetwork.com ... but seriously, your hotel concierges will know if you don't access any of that stuff.

#1 you could take a look at this one:

#2 There's no public parking at this beach, but you can park at the nearby Kailua Beach Park and walk back. Limited street parking is also available.

I believe that MelissaHI is Hawaii people.
South Maui:
Ulua and Keawakapu, on/near Kihei/Wailea border, are good snorkeling venues with easy access and public parking. Maui Revealed, Snorkel Bob's, Maui Dive all have directions to many other good sites.
Enjoy your trip.

I parked at Lanikai twice in 2006 and not at the beach park (where I also parked later). It took me a while to find parking on the street but I did in what was clearly street parking used by others. I was there both times for over an hour (once at daybreak, once during the day). No ticket. I didn't see parking permits on the other cars. I think you just had bad luck parking in front of/on a bike path.
And you still should be prepared to walk a bit, because even when you find parking you may have to walk several blocks to one of the entrances to the beach.
