Try typing what you want into Google. Here's one:

I always go to google and type in something like this:

'name of city/area' + vacation homes

'name of city/area' + vacation rentals

'name of city/area' + cabin rentals

'name of city/area' + cottage rentals

You could also call the C of C in Danville and ask if there is a company there that handles vacation rentals.

I would guess that you are having trouble because Danville is not a vacations spot. Is there a reason you are looking for that specific city?

I don't know where Danville is but craigslist.org has a San Francisco page.

CofC would be the Chamber of Commerce. Danville is a quiet little town, basically suburbia...but quite a ways out to use as a base if you are planning to do most of your tourist stuff closer to SF. I have family in the area, so I know it from that. However, there are a lot of SF area poeple on the board here that can give you more help than I can.

YOu may want to be closer to a BART station which would be Walnut Creek or Lafayette. But either way, and including Danville, non of these places are vacation spots. These east bay towns are all suburbs surrounded by freeways. You may want to look at north bay which at least would put you near the coast and in a more vacation spot. Try Bodega Bay or even Stinson Beach.

May I respectfully disagree, I think Danville is a delightful location for home base with a car. Right on the freeway to head in every direction. Charming preserved ole Towne. Great food, little shops, the fabulous Andronico's Market & Trader Joe, near Blackhawk & Berring AutoMuseum, MT Diablo, Del Valle, Chabot, I could go on and on! What are your interest's? For many of us, San Francisco is not first on our list of favorite places

basils: Can you give some details on what you mean by "some tourist stuff"? It would help us give you specific recommendations.

Most tourist attractions lie north and south of SF, not east. For Napa/the wine country you're much better off staying in that general area -- less distance and traffic, and for points southward (Carmel/Monterey/etc) you're also better off staying in or around that area. And if most of your activities will be in SF you'll have many more rental choices there compared to Danville.

You could advertise in the local newspaper, The Contra Costa Times or in the SanFrancisco Chronical.

Don't think your chances are really great though. But the best of luck to you.
