River Cafe is a terrific spot for a romantic dinner. It's located right under the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side and presents an unbelievable view of the city and the bridge. Just a gorgeous place, with great service and excellent view. I don't know if $65 per person for dinner is reasonable for you, but the atmosphere of the place can't be beat.

Hotels should have weekend specials - try the Radison Empire - it is well located near Lincoln Center and Central Park. Or the Crowne Plaza on 42nd& Broadway. The staff there has always been surprisingly helpful and pleasant. Plan to walk a lot. There's a cool Russian restaurant called Firebird on (I think) West 46th. Little Italy is fun -- one restaurant after another all trying to get your business -- I just look for places with people who are enjoying their meals -- and have food on their plates that looks good to you!

River Cafe is excellent and well worth it. Also suggest Gramercy Tavern in the Flatiron district.
Not sure of your denomination, but a visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral followed with a swing by Rockefellar Plaza across the street is always a treat. If you're in the market for buying Valentines's Day gifts, let your girlfriend pick something out in the Diamond district off 5th Avenue (I think its near 45th). Its is a great place to see and comparison shop for jewelry. Ask for the price of gold by the gram and compare. Be careful if shopping for precious stones though.
As for a night out, Greenwich Village is always fun. Have agreat time !!
