The UES is a very big area and there are literally hundreds of restaurants!! You need to be more specific all the way around and also, may I suggest that you do a search would should yield many, many useful results.

Agreed - this is an upscale residential area so there are tons of restaurants from coffee shops to the truly elegant. You need to specify budgets and type of food to get specific recos.

I recommend Brunelli's on York Avenue. Even though the menu offers many excellent Italian selections Ignacio makes a mean filet mignon and chocolate lasagne.

There are several good French bistro's on Lexington around 73rd. Orsay has excellant food and Payard has some of the best french pastries west of Paris. One caveat, neither is what you'd call a bargain.

Thanks for the replies. We will be staying in the 90's, near the Central Park resevoir. We like ethnic food, nothing too fancy. How about an idea for a late, casual dinner after our arrival Sat. night?

Near the reservoir? Are you camping in Central Park? Sorry - couldn't resist. I'll assume you'll be staying somewhere in the low 90's between 5th and Park. Not a great restaurant neighborhood, but here goes -

Sarabeths, very good baked goods and breakfasts, and lunches, ok for dinner -Lex and 93th. " 92" - 92nd and Lex - ok American food, convivial atmosphere - clientele looks like they all just starred in a Ralph Lauren ad. Table d' Hote - 92nd & Madison ok, overpriced old fashioned french Food. Ecco-La 3rd & 93rd OK italian - around $25 per person - not really worth it . . . Barking Dog Diner - good burgers/ eggs 3rd and 94th. Jackson hole ok burgers (I'm not a fan of steamed meat. . . .) Lex and 91st. If you're willing to travel south 10 blocks or east to 2nd Ave, you could do better . . . maybe Gekko can suggest some of the 2nd Avenue drinking holes . . .

Oh yeah, there are tons of great dining options in the 80's on Second Avenue. My advice is to walk east of your place to Second, then turn south (right) and check out all the posted menus.

Elaine's at 88th Street. Famous.

Great German food, Heidelberg, a neighborhood fixture since . . . well, at least the early 1960's (85 St.).

Celebrity-favorite Elio's at 84th Street. Delicious Thai, Jasmine, also.

The ever-popular Tony's Di Napoli at 83rd St. Family-style entrees serve two adults. A favorite of Rudy Giuliani.

Mangiarini (Italian) and Jackson Hole for huge burgers across the street. (Although there's a closer Jackson Hole on MADISON at 91st St. -- not Lexington.)

On 86th just east of 2nd Ave there's a new place that reviewed well in the New York Times -- Ian. South side of the street, near an excellent high-end Mexican restaurant, Maz Mescal.

More options as you head south, but that should keep you busy.

Enjoy the UES!

Thanks MP and Gekko. I'll print your suggestions to take with. Sounds like we'll have plenty of options!

Etats Unis is a good option too...
Good choice of wine by the glass,
very casual place and original
cuisine.

For mexican you may want to try Cilantros on 88th & 2nd. Good Margaritas! Italian you can't go wrong with Tony Dnapolis. German - Heidelburg. Celebrity spot - Elaines.
